In forming the newly established European Center for Risk & Resilience Studies at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for two positions as postdoctoral researchers in Disaster Risk Financing. The two positions are available from April 1, 2023 for two years with the possibility of an extension for up to three years. The position is located at the SDU campus in Esbjerg, Denmark. Application deadline: March 15, 2023.

The suitable candidates will have the opportunity to join an ambitious project where we address how the financial industry and governments can co-manage sustainable transitions under threat from catastrophic risks to develop resilient societies. In order words, we will reimagine insurance and other catastrophic risk management options to make them available and attractive for people all over the world, motivate private and public collaboration, facilitate efficiency, e.g. fast loss settlement and payout to meet challenges with household equity. and simultaneously promote concepts and practices that emphasize fair and sustainable systems simultaneously for policyholders, insurers, re-insurers and governments.

The candidate is expected to have strong research potential and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in insurance mathematics, economics, or closely related fields. Fluency in oral and written English is required.

The preferred candidate will have worked with risk management and/or insurance-related research; however, this is not a requirement.

These positions are supported and part-financed by WTW Research Network, an award-winning collaboration between academia, finance and insurance industries.

The Department

SEBE is part of the Faculty of Social Science and is part of Campus Esbjerg. The Department employs approx. 40 people. Research in the Department is organized in three research groups and two research centres. The announced position will be part of the European Center for Risk & Resilience Studies with affiliation to the Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment group (MERE).

Appointment to the position requires a PhD or equivalent and will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • Complete list of publications, indicating which publications are most relevant for the position

    • Please attach the PhD dissertation as a publication, if such exist

  • A list of other qualifications relevant for the position

All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.

Assessment of applications will be done under existing Appointment Order for universities.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.

Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
