Load and Control is part of Power solutions being responsible for delivering design loads, advanced control solutions, as well as commercial deliverables like power curves and noise levels to larger parts of the organisation. The responsibility spans from early engagement with product management on providing feasibility studies related to future products over controller tuning and load calculation iterations during product development to controller performance and load validation on product prototypes.

The Loads and Control Technologies department provides the rest of the Loads and Controls Module with innovative technologies within the areas of design basis improvements, probabilistic design, model-based wind turbine controller design and wind farm control. This with the overarching aim of lowering the levelized cost of energy produced by our products. Daily work in the department is focused on delivering solutions in ongoing technology projects that have a clear business impact on current and/or future product developments, as well as technology feasibility studies supporting the continuous development of our technology roadmap.

Currently, the department consists of 20 highly skilled and motivated engineers situated in Aarhus (Denmark) and with sister departments in Porto (Portugal) and Chennai (India). In Loads and Controls we want to embark on the journey towards leveraging on the immense amounts of data that we have available. The data originates from more than 40.000 monitored turbines as well as outputs from simulation and load calculation software.
The job entails propelling the development of strategies related to data driven design and control as well as taking part in the development of associated technologies. This as part of our continuous effort to provide value adding technologies to the Product Development and Plant and Hybrid departments. The job includes feasibility studies, algorithm design, simulation and prototype validation.

In the job you will work closely together with structural loading and control engineering experts and together you will be responsible for:

  • Driving the development of technology solutions within machine learning based control for new products from feasibility stage to fully verified solutions in field
  • Engage with loads and control tools experts to understand and pinpoint options for applying data driven methods in our tool chain as well as ensuring the development of these
  • Obtain an understanding of the possibilities of applying data driven methods in fleet optimisation and engage with the Vestas organisation to understand how these can be formulated as aftersales products
  • Verification on all levels, including software tests and field testing
  • Risk management activities such as risk assessments and failure mode and effect analysis

You have:

  • A Ph.D. or M.Sc. within, electrical engineering, software engineering or other relevant engineering degree
  • 5+ years of experience working as a Data Scientist
  • Experience from working in the fields of embedded software development, algorithm design, Control system design, digital signal processing or machine learning
  • Extensive programming experience using C++, R, Python, Matlab etc.
  • Extensive experience using AI and machine learning software and frameworks

It is an advantage, if you have:

  • Experience from the wind industry
  • Experience in leading projects following milestones and meeting deadlines, and maybe you are certified in project management e.g. Prince2 Agile certification
  • Experience in version control systems, e.g. GIT and agile planning tools, e.g. Jira

It is expected that you:

  • Can drive technology development within the area from start to end
  • Are good at handling multiple stakeholders at various levels of the organisation
  • Are pragmatic and quality-conscious
  • Are result-oriented with a good focus on the task
  • Have a creative approach to new challenges
  • Can be effective as part of a team as well as with independent tasks
  • Collaborate and share knowledge with colleagues and stakeholders

Furthermore, you have good communication skills and are fluent in English (speaking and writing)
Danish language skills are not mandatory, and we welcome international applicants.
