Instructional Designer II – Developer Curriculum

Can you work independently with minimal assistance to produce technical eLearning content?

If you have solid experience producing eLearning and are ready to take on bigger and broader responsibilities, we have just the job for you.

When you join Milestone, you become a part of our mission to provide world-leading IP video surveillance systems and award-winning learning experiences. You can also look forward to becoming part of a global team of skilled and dedicated colleagues in a company that puts people first.

The Job
The Instructional Designer II – Developer Curriculum role creates content identified by Learning & Performance management for our external developer audience. This curriculum provides awareness, context, and practice surrounding the core competencies required to develop personal- and professional-grade integrations into Milestone XProtect VMS products. Our partners develop these integrations using our Milestone Integration Platform (MIP) SDK, MIP Driver Framework, and other software development resources.

Success in this role requires technical familiarity with the subject matter, including the Microsoft Windows .NET framework, SDK documentation best practices, and integrated development environments (IDEs).

We expect an Instructional Designer II to be familiar with both eLearning rapid development tools and learning management systems (LMS), which include online services surrounding the scheduling, delivery, and management of eLearning content. You will be asked to troubleshoot LMS, SCORM and/or xAPI issues as they arise, work with management and Milestone Global IT to resolve learner concerns around technical or content-related issues, and conceptualize the development of additional online services and utilities to address learner needs.

We expect ID2 team members to accomplish the following daily tasks with a high degree of independence while requiring minimal assistance throughout the development process:

  • Produce eLearning courses that adhere to branding and Learning & Performance guidelines, including outlining, scripting, storyboarding, graphics production, and UX design.
  • Configure XProtect VMS test and development systems to validate specific functionality and collect assets for content development.
  • Work with subject matter experts or Learning & Performance Training Technical Expert staff to configure moderate to high-complexity systems and collect assets for content development.

The Team
The Learning & Performance team is part of Milestone Learning Experiences, which also includes our Technical Communication and Localization teams. Learning Experiences develops content for Milestone’s global audience, and has team members distributed across the United States, Denmark, and Bulgaria to support this effort.

This role will work out of the Denmark office alongside another instructional designer and several colleagues from Learning Experiences. The role reports into the Engineering Manager, Instructional Design, who works in the United States (UTC-05:00). Because of the global nature of the team, team members are expected to be able to work independently, accommodate flexible meeting schedules, and be comfortable using telecommuting and team productivity software such as Microsoft Teams throughout their day.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in Adult Education or Instructional Technology preferred. Classroom or in-person training experience a plus.
  • 5+ years of eLearning instructional design experience (a portfolio of work samples will be re-quired).
  • Demonstration of solid foundation in adult learning, performance support, and instructional design theory.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft .NET development concepts, SDK documentation best practices, IDEs (e.g. Visual Studio), and developer workflows (agile processes, source control, etc.)

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced computer/IT technical skills, including programming experience in C#
  • Familiarity with cloud providers and services, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  • Competence in eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate
  • Competence with graphic design and/or animation software such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with telecommuting and team productivity software such as Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge of SCORM/xAPI and Learning Management Systems.
