Director of the Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging (CFIB)

The University is seeking to appoint the Director of the Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging (CFIB).

The CFIB is a newly created multimodal bioimaging core facility under the new Center for Core Facilities (CCF). CFIB’s vision is to integrate the two existing facilities, the preclinical NMR platform and the Core facility for Integrated Microscopy (CFIM). CFIB currently offers open access services on a broad range of bioimaging technologies; including preclinical in vivo NMR imaging, multiphoton intra-vital imaging, light sheet microscopy of both live and cleared organisms/organs/organoids, histology and pathology, confocal and airyscan for both fixed and live experiments, SIM, STED and SMLM, volume EM, room temperature TEM and cryoEM/ET, single particle analysis, and advanced image analysis pipelines.

The CCF is hosted by the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND) and aims to strengthen access to advanced research technologies and foster interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Copenhagen. CCF coordinates and develops strategic core facilities across the faculty, ensuring cutting-edge technologies, transparent processes and pricing, and strong links to leading research environments.

Established on 1 September 2025, CCF brings world-class infrastructure under one umbrella, making it easier for researchers, educators, and innovators to access technologies that drive and support excellent research, discovery, innovation, and life-long education.

The CCF will create a research infrastructure-centric ecosystem to implement and sustain excellent service provision, support and drive technology/methodology innovation, and secure the financial sustainability of core facilities. Importantly, CCF will define and implement attractive career paths for the highly interdisciplinary and diverse professionals that lead, manage and operate our core facilities.

Description of this position:

We are seeking an experienced, visionary and dynamic leader for the Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging to:

  • lead the strategic development, operational management, and scientific direction of the facility,
  • drive the creation and financial sustainability of methods development projects that support world-class bioimaging-based research,
  • integrate high-end bioimaging technologies into relevant education programs/activities.


Key Responsibilities:

The CFIB Director’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

Leadership and Research Infrastructure Management

  • Responsibility for leading and managing CFIB, a state-of-the-art bioimaging core facility.
  • Active fundraising to contribute to the long-term sustainability of CFIB service portfolio and their continuous development.
  • Create bridges with relevant user community to drive and financially support methods/tools/technology development align with strategic developments defined with the CFIB Advisory Board.
  • Oversee the maintenance and strategic upgrade of imaging equipment, ensuring optimal performance and excellent technology portfolio development.
  • Develop and implement, in close collaboration with platform managers, policies for quality assurance, safety, and excellent user support.
  • Lead the facility teams to foster a collaborative, inclusive and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure a focus on continued professional development and staff well-being for the CFIB staff.


Technology, method and service strategic development

  • Research including publication/academic dissemination with focus on bioimaging technologies and methodologies of relevance to the CFIB user base
  • Teaching, including associated examination with special focus on development of bioimaging technology-based teaching
  • Research technology leadership, including collaboration, guidance and co-supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate and connecting CFIB with internationally recognized bioimaging groups, infrastructures, initiative, and networks


Qualification criteria

The main emphasis will be on a track record within the area of bioimaging technologies and methodologies. Moreover, emphasis will be on the candidate's relevant competence and experience from managing and developing a successful bioimaging infrastructure, fundraising to support strategic investments, and implementing multimodal bioimaging workflows as services.

We are looking for a Director that has

  • Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, cell biology, or a related field,
  • Managerial competence and experience from management of research, and research infrastructures,
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate complex technical concepts effectively,
  • Original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the bioimaging technologies field,
  • Proven track record of fund-raising activities at the national and international level,
  • Experience and interest in research technology-based teaching in an academic environment.

Terms of employment

You will formally be employed as Senior Consultant with personnel management.

The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The salary is based on seniority and negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working hours are 37 hours per week on average.

The position is a permanent position. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
