Have you ever wondered about the journey of your IKEA furniture, Samsung TV, or pair of Nike before it entered your home? Well, being one of the world’s largest logistics companies, it probably has been on one of our ships, planes, trucks or through one of our warehouses at some point. We probably also shipped the raw materials into the production.

In essence, we integrate the world. And a more integrated world improves life quality and prosperity for all. For more than a century, we have been a leader within shipping logistics. However, we think we can do better and integrate even more. A few years ago, we made the decision to double down on delivering an exceptional end-to-end experience for our customers throughout their entire supply chain. This led to an expansion of our Lead Logistics business, which in essence manages the whole logistics flow on behalf of our customers such that they don’t have to worry about it. However, managing millions of flows for a business yielding revenue of above 1.5bn USD is complex.

That’s where this role comes in, since we need someone who can help us taking the next step in becoming more data-driven in our execution such that we can deliver outstanding quality while also being cost efficient.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will have global financial ownership for our Lead Logistics Delivery function, working as a strategic data partner. Hence, you will be responsible for working with the Lead Logistics Delivery function to define how we can better drive performance.

You will have high autonomy to define your own role – however, to get you started, I’ve thought about the following outcomes to structure it:

Operating system

  • Define our operating system that fits into the overall Maersk Operating System of decision/performance meetings.

  • Define which material (e.g., dashboards, reports, etc.) that is required throughout this cadence.


Data

  • Define the global metrics we need to make better decisions, e.g., quality vs. cost metrics and leading vs. lagging metrics.

  • Drive adoption of our data and secure strong data quality and ‘one set of numbers’


Projects

  • Participate in projects where you will own the data/financial angle, e.g., develop the business case for near-/off-shoring strategy or roll-out of new technology.

  • Ad hoc elements, e.g., where you will estimate and communicate a financial update within Lead Logistics Delivery

  • Finance roles, e.g., FBP, FP&A, etc.

  • Strategy or management consulting roles, e.g., with projects within logistics or finance
