About the department
The Microbial Expression Department (MiE) is part of Recombinant Technologies and has microbial strain engineering and protein production as core tasks. The primary responsibility of MiE is to ensure timely support to our research projects with a broad range of protein expression technologies, strain optimization tools and production strains. To ensure future success of our discovery processes, we continuously strengthen our capabilities and invest in emerging and cutting-edge technologies.

Your primary tasks will be:
  • Strain engineering and strain characterization aiming at DNA production as well as protein expression – both in Escherichia coli.
  • Protein expression in our yeast systems.
  • Devising and executing appropriate experimental strategies for generating microbial strains for various research projects.

  • Both DNA and protein will be applied in our research projects with the former within RNAi and gene editing space and the latter in our protein and peptide portfolio. Qualifications To qualify for the position, we imagine that you:
  • Have a relevant education as a Laboratory Technician, Biomedical Laboratory Scientist or Bachelor of Chemical and Biotechnical Technology and Food Technology.
  • Have extensive molecular biology experience preferably within microbial strain engineering, strain characterization and the heterologous expression field.
  • Have insight into working with preferably E. coli and yeasts.
  • Have experience with applying liquid handlers, colony pickers and cultivation equipment and have an interest in learning how to operate and maintain equipment that is new to you.
  • Can communicate in English on a professional level both written and verbally.

  • Furthermore, we imagine that you have solid experience with IT-based DNA design work and sequence evaluation, data handling and reporting, as this is a central part of the job. Ability to program liquid handlers is considered an advantage.
