Do you want to take part in bringing stem cell-based therapies to patients suffering from type 1 diabetes and other serious chronic diseases? We are looking to expand our team to support the development of a treatment for type 1 diabetes, and we have several open positions within Cell Therapy Research. The position As a senior scientist, you will support our efforts to progress stem cell-based therapies toward clinical development, focusing on our projects within type 1 diabetes. Your focus will be on the generation and characterization of in vitro differentiated insulin producing beta cells and establishing correlations to the outcome of in vivo studies. Some of your daily tasks will include: Taking part in planning in vivo studies, in close collaboration with our internal in vivo pharmacologists and the histology & imaging team. Being responsible for the in vitro part of the in vivo studies, preparing the cells for transplantation, and building the assay package which characterizes the transplanted cell product. Analysing data packages and reporting conclusions to guide efforts in protocol and process development. We support the preparations for non-clinical and clinical studies together with our colleagues in CMC. You will be part of a project team supporting our external collaborations, working to ensure a high level of communication, data sharing and technical support when needed on in vitro processes. Take the daily supervision of skilled technicians and students and collaborating on building the data to drive the projects forward. Qualifications The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. within biomedical sciences, bioengineering, bioprocessing, biology or stem cell biology, and have at least 2-3 years of work experience. We are looking for a person with strong collaborative and communication skills who has a talent for interacting with many different teams, across in vitro, in vivo, as well as with our CMC unit and external collaborators. To be successful in this position, you have: A strong background in stem cell biology and/or developmental biology with experience in differentiation towards the endodermal lineages. Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture preferably pluripotent stem cells and suspension culture differentiation. Knowledge and the ability to interpret data from key analyses such as flow cytometry, functional beta cell assays, RNA sequencing and diabetic in vivo models will be expected. A background in beta cell biology and experience with in vivo studies will be considered a benefit. Experience with supervision of technicians and/or students. Good written and spoken English skills. In addition, you have a high motivation for translational science and a curiosity to understand what it takes to drive stem cell-based therapies towards clinical application.You must be able to keep the overview while paying attention to important details to enable data driven decisions and efficient project progression. About the department The Department of Stem Cell Biology is a dynamic, technology driven department, part of Cell Therapy R&D, a Transformational Research Unit (TRU) within Novo Nordisk. The TRU is unique in the sense that it covers the full R&D value chain, which means we function as an integrated unit, spanning from early research to GMP manufacturing and clinical development in the same organisation. Our department is part of the Research organization, we are based in Måløv, Denmark and count 13 scientists and 7 technicians. You will join a dedicated and supportive project team with extensive expertise in stem cell biology and beta cell differentiation, and work in close collaboration with other areas of the organisation to build the data to drive our projects forward.
