København Ø

The Kresten Lindorff-Larsen group is recruiting a postdoc in computational biophysics and machine learning studies of intrinsically disordered proteins. The postdoc will work together with other members in the Lindorff-Larsen group as well as experimentalists in the groups of Drs. Tanja Mittag (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) and Rasmus Hartmann-Petersen (University of Copenhagen). The postdoc project aims to study the function of disordered proteins by combining coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning and bioinformatics.

The start date is expected to be August 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term, two-year position. Details about the project, what we are looking for and how to apply can be found below.

The project

The postdoc position is part of the REWIRE project where we aim to study and learn the rules for reading and writing amino acid sequences of intrinsically disordered proteins. In the overall project will combine molecular simulations, machine learning, biophysics, and cell biology to discover the evolutionarily encoded language that describe the function of disordered proteins. The specific postdoc project in this call will be fully computational, but will be performed in close collaboration with experiments performed in the groups of Drs. Tanja Mittag (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) and Rasmus Hartmann-Petersen (University of Copenhagen). For some background on our work on disordered proteins, see for example two recent reviews (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sbi.2025.103028 & https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sbi.2025.103210) as well as other publications from the group.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking applicants with a PhD degree in computational biophysics, physics, chemistry or biochemistry or similar fields. The candidate should ideally have documented (through publications) prior research experience within one or more of these areas:

  • Developing computational methods to study disordered proteins including for example coarse-grained simulation models
  • Large-scale molecular dynamics simulations
  • Developing or using machine learning models to study sequences of disordered proteins

We are ideally looking for candidates who have gone beyond using existing methods, and who have substantial experience in developing computational methods to study protein biophysics.

Our group and research- and what do we offer?

The positions are part of an interdisciplinary research effort called REWIRE together with Drs. Tanja Mittag and Rasmus Hartmann-Petersen. The postdoc will work in the group of Kresten Lindorff-Larsen, located at the Department of Biology in central Copenhagen. The group is also part of an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment at the Linderstrøm-Lang Centre for Protein Science, and you will have the chance to interact with scientists across disciplines. The group is highly international, and a good level of spoken and written English is required.

We offer creative working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Current members of the research group come from a broad range of scientific and personal backgrounds, and we value collaborations and interdisciplinary work. We are strong proponents of open science.

Inquiries about the position can be made to Professor Kresten Lindorff-Larsen, Department of Biology, E-mail: lindorff@bio.ku.dk, but all applications must be made via the online system as described below.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below. Do not send applications directly via email.

When you will be affiliated with the University of Copenhagen or otherwise have access to their research, you may be required to undergo a background screening. The purpose is to protect the security and research integrity of the University of Copenhagen.

Please include

  • Curriculum vitae (max 2. pages)
  • A cover letter motivating why you are interested in the position and why you would be a good fit (max 1. page)
  • Complete publication list including preprints. Do not include the actual publications.
  • Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)

The deadline for applications is 3 May 2026, 23:59 GMT +2.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee.
