Are you interested in gaining experience in the humanitarian sector with one of the world's largest NGOs? If you're passionate about effective communication and want hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, apply now to be our next communications intern for the fall semester 2026.

About the job

The Localization Management Unit (LMU) team at DRC considers local actors a key driver of change. Through dedicated operational support, we engage and support local actors to have the agency, space and capacity to fulfil rights of people affected by conflict and displacement. Based in Copenhagen, we provide strategic, analytical, and operational support to our partners at local, regional and transnational levels. In line with this mandate, our team also leads DRC's engagement with diaspora communities globally.

Since 2010, DRC has engaged directly with diverse diaspora communities to strengthen their engagement in countries of origin, transit and residence. We believe diaspora actors play a vital role in humanitarian assistance, recovery and development. As a communications intern, you will support the wider unit, but specifically our diaspora program team by enhancing communication across various platforms and contributing to content that showcases diaspora engagement in countries such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria and Ukraine.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Content creation and promotion - Support creation and promotion of engaging content (copy, videos, infographics, factsheets) using tools like InDesign and Canva, adhering to DRC's corporate identity. Monitor social media channels and digital platforms to share diaspora stories.
  • Diaspora storytelling - Research and draft compelling human-interest stories on diaspora engagement for websites and online channels. Conduct interviews with diaspora members and local organizations to showcase impactful work.
  • Reports and research dissemination - Conduct rapid online diaspora response mapping and support distribution of new reports and research findings. Extract key messages for targeted promotion through digital media platforms.
  • Communication support for events - Provide end-to-end communication support for events across email and social media platforms (Mailchimp, LinkedIn). Prepare event notices, distribute post-event reports, and support outreach to diaspora organizations.
  • Administrative and internal communication support - Assist in organizing meetings and appointments, produce and distribute meeting minutes, edit and publish internal news on the organization's intranet, and develop integrated communications plans across teams.

We offer flexibility in tasks, so you will also have the possibility to influence your responsibilities based on what is relevant for your study program.
