The Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applicants to apply for an associate professorship position in computational biology.

This position will be anchored at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) and is part of a larger strategic investment in computational biology. The successful candidate is expected to have a track record in computational biology, and has demonstrated the ability to win external funding as PI. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate will play a leading role in shaping the educational profile of bioinformatics and computational bio-medicine at SDU.

We are looking for candidates with PhD degrees in the fields Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Bio-medicine, or Molecular Biology and strong expertise, in particular, in:
● Single-cell OMICS analysis
● Functional genetic analysis
● Multi-omics integration and systems biology.

A successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a clear research vision of how to facilitate state-of-the-art experimental approaches with a dry lab and how to collaborate with existing experimental and bioinformatics work groups at the relevant departments across the university. Furthermore, the successful candidate should show a strong potential for developing an internationally outstanding research profile.

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Danish is not a prerequisite for application. However, the primary administrative language at SDU is Danish and staff should therefore be willing to acquire Danish skills within a couple of years.

SDU offers a modern, inclusive, international and interdisciplinary working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition for collaboration across faculties. As the Faculties of Science and Health Sciences and the Odense University Hospital within a few years will share one major campus in Odense, further synergies and stronger ties between the units are expected. The SDU eScience Center is a national provider of HPC infrastructure for research, and thus offers access to attractive computational resources for life sciences.

In addition to BSc, MSc and PhD education in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Biomedicine and Biochemistry, SDU offers an international MSc degree in Computational Bio-medicine as well as an MSc degree in Data Science. Furthermore, a new BSc degree in Artificial Intelligence will open for applications later this year. The applicant is expected to participate in the study programme by extending the course portfolio; a formal pedagogical training is therefore a plus.

Application, salary etc.
Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. When the expert committee issues its assessment, the applicants will be sent the portion of the assessment pertaining to them personally.

The application must include:
• A curriculum vitae
• A full list of publications
• Copies of all publications on which the applicant wishes to be evaluated
• A brief survey of the applicant's most important research results and research plans for the next three years
• A teaching portfolio.

Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.

Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.

An interview may be included as a part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications.

Applications must be submitted electronically using the link "Apply online". Attached files must be in Adobe PDF or Word format. Each box can only contain a single file of max. 10 Mb. We strongly recommend that you read How to apply before you apply.

Since not all members of the appointment committee are Danish-speaking, it is recommended that your application is submitted in English.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
