The position

As a Legal Counsel (Data Protection) at ALK, you will be part of the Corporate Affairs & Legal department, which is a small, dedicated, and informal team working across ALK. Knowledge creation, pragmatism, high level skills and integrity characterise our team.

In this position you will play a key role in advising and acting as a sparring partner to key stakeholders across the organisation on data protection matters, drive the ongoing development and implementation of our data protection processes, and manage ALK’s data protection programme, particularly in Europe, but also be involved in our global governance.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Legal, you will work closely with other staff functions within ALK. You will work closely with many of our colleagues in Denmark and abroad, including our local personal data representatives and our external Data Protection Officer. You will also have a close dialogue with our external legal advisors.

Your areas of responsibility

  • Advise on data protection matters, particularly in relation to GDPR, such as the use of personal data in ALK's business, the basis for processing, disclosure, and transfer to third countries.
  • Updating and maintaining our records of processing activities.
  • Perform risk assessments, transfer impact assessments, review data processor agreements, etc., in close collaboration with the relevant business areas.
  • Act as the first point of contact internally and externally with authorities and data subjects on data protection matters and advise on data breaches.
  • Review and draft data protection policies and notices.
  • Continue to develop and improve ALK's data protection documentation and processes.
  • Provide data protection training to employees and raise awareness of data protection matters, for example through campaigns and newsletters.

Your background

You are a strong communicator that possesses a sharp business acumen. You have a natural authority and tenacity, coupled with the ability to explain complicated matters clearly and simply. You are also a relentless networker, able to forge links throughout the company in order to extend your influence. You will be working across different business areas, functions, borders and cultures, which is why organisational flair is a key skill.

In addition, a strong candidate profile will include:

  • Minimum two years' experience working with data protection matters from a legal perspective, particularly GDPR and Danish practices, which may have be gained from working in the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Relevant educational background, e.g., you hold a law degree or have similar qualifications.
  • Substantive understanding of and experience with handling data protection matters in practice and a desire to understand ALK's business areas and the challenges they face.
  • Ability to work in a structured, attentive and efficient manner and you know how to prioritise your tasks and focus on delivering practical solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-changing company in a changing regulatory environment
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative, working well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills that enable you to make complex legal requirements easy tounderstand and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Solid relationship-building skills
  • Fluency in Danish and English, both written and spoken.
