Senior Data Scientist - Innovation
Job Location: Copenhagen.

As a Senior Data Scientist within the Innovation Dock team you will gain broad business knowledge of the company’s activities globally and be working to bring our employees ideas to life to drive our strategy.
Our teams purpose is enabling innovation and experimentation across our employees. It is an exciting time where we are building a new squad to help refine, experiment and validate high potential value ideas in our innovation backlog and ensure success ones are transitioned to a funded capability in Maersk.
You will be exposed to a wide and challenging range of ideas driven from our innovation backlog. Engagement with key stakeholders across all levels in Maersk will be key to bringing the ideas to life and validating potential value.
Key responsibilities
As a Senior Data Scientist in the innovation team you work across the early phases of the design cycle, by bringing data models to address a business problem. You will gather, analyse, combine and aggregate data sources to shape the problem and define potential solutions. You will not only use your skills to shape and validate the idea but also bring your expertise in measuring the success or failure of any experiments.
Your daily work includes overlooking a large backlog of potential ideas from our innovation repository. These ideas have been sourced from our employees through hackathons, direct submissions, etc. Together with a cross-disciplinary team in Innovation dock you will engage with idea owners, Product Owners, customer insights teams, engineering teams and other stakeholders across the organisation to refine and validate an idea. Early stage validation to refine, defer or cull ideas is critical.
You will be a self starter and primary data scientist for the team but will coach the team in data science as well as have a passion for learning to gain a deeper understanding of the work across the squad. Maersk has a very active community of data scientists and innovation who can help guide, support and share experiences and individual contribution to this community will be encouraged.
In short, we are looking for someone who wants to:
- Drive the data science efforts for early stage idea validation across a wide ranging innovation backlog ; identifying the data needs, designing the right models and measuring the success of any experiments.
- Perform data analysis and modelling to support problem definition and any solution.
- Develop, evaluate and deploy machine learning and optimization models as needed to improve the accuracy and quality of any proposed solution.
- Work with data and analytics experts to drive the value of any proposed solution.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to understand the business processes behind the data and incorporate their needs into any prototypes or experiments to enhance the potential value.
- Promote Data Science.
- Mentor and coach the team.
To do this job, we imagine you have:
- Substantial industry experience with at least 5 years of experience in building data science models and products, ideally for a product/industrial company.
- M.Sc./M.Tech or PhD in statistics, mathematics, econometrics, computer science, physics or related field.
- A background or profile in Machine Learning, quantitative methods, predictive modelling, statistics or similar.
- Excellent track record of delivery using languages like Python, R, Java and technologies like Hadoop, Git/SVN, JIRA etc.
- Ability to effectively communicate data science results and analytics value to business stakeholders.
- A proven experience in rapid prototyping and experimentation to test ideas quickly.
- A passion for putting the customer first and solving our customer needs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset
- Ability to work independently with stakeholders while liaising and reviewing with the team.
- Proven ability to collaborate and to communicate data science models and rationale – verbally and written.
