The Section of Digital and High Frequency Electronics at the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is opening a new position at the level of Assistant Professor.

The Section focuses on conducting research in digital and high-frequency electronics, embedded systems, control, and communication, utilizing cutting-edge reconfigurable computing and sensors. The aim is to develop next-generation electronics and computing solutions that solve technology-related challenges in fields such as autonomous robots, drones, IoT, smart grid, and healthcare.

The section is a vital component of our educational programs in electrical engineering in Odense, offering Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in Electronics Engineering. Currently, the section focuses on two research fields: 1) Drones for Infrastructure Inspections and Interactions (DIII) and 2) IoT and HealthCare (IoTH). Over the next few years, the section is expected to expand to include at least 20 academics, including PhD students and engineers, to support research funding, industrial collaboration, and educational activities. This growth will enable the section to continue its contribution to the field of electrical engineering and related areas.

The SDU campus in Odense comprises five faculties and soon also a large university hospital creating a great concentration of academics and students facilitating interdisciplinary research and rich student life. Job Description:
The profile of the position requires conducting research on autonomous systems design utilizing neuromorphic computing and reconfigurable hardware and developing and testing real-time circuits and systems related to the section’s focus areas. The research will leverage established and emerging technical expertise at SDU across multiple specializations, including onboard FPGA computing, Edge AI, sensor design, machine learning, and self-recharging.

Duties:
As an Assistant Professor, your role will encompass teaching, research, and administration. Your teaching responsibilities will involve course planning, administration, and supervision of BSc and master students in Electronics. Your proficiency in basic electronics, analog and digital electronics will be essential in delivering electronic-related subject areas.

Additionally, you will be expected to set up and develop your own research line and secure external funding. Your research focus will be on designing neuromorphic and real-time electronic systems, which aligns with the section focus areas of analog and digital integrated circuits and systems.

Qualifications Required:

  • The applicant should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in electronics, electrical engineering, embedded systems, or a related subject area.
  • The applicant must have relevant research expertise and teaching skills that are aligned with the content and responsibilities of the position. This includes possessing pedagogical skills and professional skills that are essential for carrying out the tasks associated with the role.

Other Expertise International postdoctoral experience in a research environment that is different from the one in which the applicant completed their doctoral studies will be considered an advantage.

Conditions of employment
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level and is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
