Are you interested in working with in vitro biology and in vitro assays within the liver and gut? Do you find it exciting and inspiring to be part of a research team developing new treatments for cardiometabolic diseases with focus on type 2 diabetes? Then you are the Specialist we are looking for to support our early research pipeline. The position As a Specialist you will be part of an ambitious multidisciplinary team exploring and identifying new treatment options for type 2 diabetes. You will be working closely with scientists and technicians throughout the organisation to move projects forward across the value chain. Your task will include: Taking part in evaluating potential external opportunities from academia, biotech, or pharma. Establishing, implementing, and utilizing new advanced human in vitro disease models in collaboration with fellow scientist across the organisation. This includes staying on top of relevant developments in the field, commercial as well as academic. Identifying, maturing, and progressing new drug targets within type 2 diabetes with an emphasis on liver and gut biology, from design of in vitro experiments to validation of human relevance by assessing translational tools and exploring a target’s putative mechanism of action. The position is within the Liver/Gut Biology department, which is part of Global Drug Development (GDD) and located in Måløv, North-west of Copenhagen. Qualifications You have a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, human biology, or related disciplines with 4-5 years of relevant experience. It is an advantage if you have 2 years of experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. To be considered for this position you need to have: A proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of type 2 diabetes pathophysiology with in-depth knowledge of liver and/or gut biology and metabolism as well as experience in target discovery, in vitro characterisation, and validation. Experience in advanced in vitro models, such as co-culture systems, organoids, organs-on-chip or micro-physiological models, and experience with bioinformatics and data analysis is considered an advantage. International work experience and a solid international scientific network are mandatory. Fluency in English As a person, you are dedicated, open-minded, and an innovative team player with good collaboration, problem-solving and analytical skills. You are quality-minded and live up to our high ethical standards, you possess a flexible attitude and the ability to change focus as required by the projects and research focus. You have strong multitasking skills, a sound personal judgement to take decisions and a diligent approach at work. Finally, you must have a strong work ethic, can- do attitude and willingness to take responsibility for your own projects and progress. About the department The Liver/Gut Biology department is part of the Liver Disease Research area and focus on liver and gut biology in relation to target identification, target validation and pre-clinical characterisation of new assets to become novel treatment options for patients living with type 2 diabetes or other cardiometabolic diseases. We are working in an organ-centric and disease agnostic manner to develop, characterise and utilize in vitro tools to elucidate mode-of-action and profiling of novel molecules and biology for early evaluation of drug candidates. For this purpose, we apply state-of-the-art equipment and collaborate closely with our colleagues across GDD as well as with external collaborators. In the department, we are five scientists, five technicians, and a student and the working atmosphere is characterised by an open, cheerful, and informal tone. With a multitude of different nationalities in the team, both working and social language is English.
