Do you have a strong background within receptor pharmacology and development of in vitro biological assays for drug candidate screening purposes? And do you want to apply your skills and knowledge in an international, ambitious, and collaborative team? If yes, then you could be our new colleague in the Centre for Functional Assays & Screening. The position We are expanding both within our core and new therapeutic areas and therefore efficient predictive in vitro screening tools are needed to facilitate medium and high throughput screening of peptides, proteins as well as other drug modalities. In the role as a Principal Scientist, your main responsibilities include:
  • Designing, developing, and conducting advanced and robust cellular in vitro assays to aid the selection of drug candidates.
  • Being a key driver of the design and execution of medium- or high-throughput screening assays, primarily supporting our T2D and obesity portfolio.
  • Contributing to maturing and advancing scientific ideas into projects including development and improvement of screening strategies to select the best drug candidates within different therapeutic areas.
  • In your daily work, you will collaborate closely with project teams, department scientists, and laboratory technicians. Our research and discovery work is organized in multidisciplinary cross-functional project teams, and you will represent the department across a range of projects. The working environment in Global Research Technologies is dynamic and innovative and involves interactions with colleagues from research sites in Denmark, US, UK, and China, with an excellent opportunity to establish a strong global scientific network. Qualifications To thrive and succeed in the role, we expect you to have:
  • PhD in cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related discipline and at least 7 years of post-degree experience from the pharmaceutical industry with preclinical development of drug candidates (preferably peptides and proteins)
  • Extensive receptor pharmacology knowledge, preferably GPCR expert knowledge.
  • Solid experience in design, development, and execution of cellular in vitro functional assays based on the use of engineered cell lines. Assays of relevance comprise, but are not limited to molecular pharmacology assays detecting signal transduction e.g. reporter gene assays, receptor binding assays, high-content imaging, and FRET assays.
  • Experience with liquid handlers (e.g., Biomek, Hamilton or Tecan) and automated/semi-automated workflows for efficient screening processes.
  • It is an advantage to have a solid track record of engagement with cross-disciplinary scientists to evaluate targets for new drug discovery projects. Strong analytical and statistical skills and a flair for programming (R or Python) are likewise a plus. As a person, you are curious and open-minded to new ideas, people, and challenges. You have excellent communication skills, and you are good at establishing and maintaining connections externally and internally. You thrive in a changing and dynamic work environment, and you enjoy working in teams to share knowledge.
