Job description
The PhD position is funded by the SCOR Chair on Mortality. As a part of the Chair, the successful PhD candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research on mortality and multi-morbidities. The research efforts aim to use novel methods in demography and data science to provide a deeper understanding of the morbid conditions leading to death, how these conditions changed over time and how they differ between populations. The selected PhD candidate is expected to work on at least one of the following topics (1) reliability of multiple causes of death data, (2) association between morbidities, (3) probability of dying from one cause rather than another competing cause or (4) number years lived with morbidities. The project will be carried out at CPop, but the PhD student is expected to collaborate with researchers from other partner universities and from the insurance industry. In particular, the PhD position comprises a research stay of 3-4 months in Paris and participation to a yearly seminar organized with the SCOR Foundation. It would be desirable if an applicant is interested in research in one or more of the following areas:

• Modelling mortality and health, in particular (multiple) causes of death.
• Machine learning
• Formal or statistical demography
• Inequalities in health and mortality between groups of population

A good knowledge of R or other statistical software is an advantage.
