Opportunity
This is a transactional legal role working within a highly specialised team of lawyers that supports the business with legal advice on all maritime law matters.
Your main responsibility will be to provide advice and legal support for our vessel sale and purchase activities, fleet asset divestments, recycling and any connected sale and leaseback transactions.
You will oversee and drive engagement between Legal and the Vessel Portfolio Management and Newbuilding teams that are organized under our Chartering department. You will play a key role in supporting and developing our existing contractual frameworks, terms and conditions and end-to-end processes as well as providing day-to-day advice on all aspects of the transactional side of our vessel asset portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
The primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities are listed below:
- Act as the global lead, trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert for ship finance matters.
- Provide legal support for S&P transactions / divestments, to include advising and negotiating MoAs and industry standard sale forms, delivery documentation, escrow agreements. and responding to ad-hoc questions that may arise from transactions and documentary closings;
- Provide negotiation support and assist the Newbuilding team as may be required with the project pipeline in shipbuilding, including support with NDAs, LOIs and shipbuilding contracts;
- Support and act as a trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert to assist the procurement teams with legal support for retrofit agreements with shipyards and associated suppliers;
- Support the Chartering team with review of bareboat charters, quiet enjoyment letters and parent company guarantees;
- Ensure a successful and sustainable adherence of global policies and procedures, communication, risk assessments, contract reviews, conduct in-person trainings to target audience.
- Provide guidance to relevant stakeholders across all Maersk brands regarding provisions in contracts and related negotiations, including responding to and and advising relevant internal stakeholders on mitigating actions related to contractual risks and litigation support.
- Create and conduct legal training to relevant employees (in person, webinars and/or e-learning).
- Advise stakeholders on legal trends, developing areas of the law, industry trends and related risks that may impact the Maersk’s operations and/or services.
- Participate in external forums and work groups as a representative of Maersk.
We are looking for someone
You will be responsible for leading and partnering with the the Vessel Portfolio Management and Newbuilding teams on a global level.
The role requires a disciplined, structured and business-oriented mindset with a strong sense of integrity and personal ethics while maintaining the ability to strike a sound balance between analysis and action. This will require a hands-on approach and experience working in an advisory role supporting in contract negotiations will be critical.
- Good to have degree in law or an equivalent legal qualification related discipline is preferred.
- Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the jurisdiction in which the license is issued.
- Few good years of experience in a legal role focusing on Shipping law and commercial contracting, preferably with an in-house legal team or law firm experience working with in house legal teams.
- Experience with drafting, reviewing and negotiating various contracts related to ship finance, procurement and complex commercial transactions, and substantive experience with industry-related regulatory matters.
- experience in building, updating and refining contract templates customized to meet specific needs and requirements of business, while incorporating experience-informed negotiating positions
- Experience of being a successful trainer and facilitator and strong analytical, communication, negotiation, presentation, and strategic decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Highly effective communications style, translating complex legal issues into readily understandable advice and actionable recommendations that deliver business value in the context of our wider strategy.
- Integrity, excellent interpersonal skills, an inquisitive mind, and the ability to connect and work effectively with multiple, diverse, cross-functional stakeholders, legal organization, third parties and customers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while working collaboratively within a local and global team environment.
