Are you a strategic legal professional with a passion for compliance and global impact? RU is looking for a visionary Compliance Counsel to join Group Legal and to lead and evolve our international compliance framework.


In this key role, you will shape policies, drive risk management, and collaborate across borders to ensure excellence in legal and ethical standards. Based in either the Netherlands (Bunnik) or Denmark (Faxe), you will be at the heart of our global operations.


About the role


We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Compliance Counsel to lead and continuously enhance our global compliance framework. The role will report to the Group General Counsel.

This role is critical to ensuring [xxxxx]s adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices, as outlined in our policies.

Key responsibilities


The Compliance Counsel will be responsible for setting the strategic direction, objectives, and priorities for RU’s global compliance framework and proactively identify opportunities for Legal and Compliance to add value to the business.. This includes ensuring that there is alignment with organizational developments, legal changes, and international standards. The role involves providing regular updates to senior management on compliance related risks and other significant matters.

You will lead the development and implementation of systems and policies that support compliance operations worldwide, covering areas such as competition law, data protection and business ethics. A key part of the role is to build and maintain strong relationships across global business and functional leadership to support RU’s strategic goals.

In collaboration with the General Counsel and other stakeholders, you will oversee training initiatives and annual compliance campaigns to promote awareness and adherence to policies. As part of a cross functional team, you will ensure to be kept informed about the status and effectiveness of the Group’s trade compliance program to meet requirements related sanctions and other trade restrictions.

You will lead the annual compliance risk assessment and play an active role in shaping the Group’s enterprise risk management strategy. With a sharp eye for opportunity, you will identify ways to scale existing compliance policies and best practices across business units and functions where they can make a real impact.

Your scope includes driving programs for corrective and preventive actions, conducting root cause analyses and implementing systemic improvements. All of this contributes to a robust compliance framework; one that is built to proactively prevent, swiftly detect and effectively respond to compliance risks.Furthermore, you will support mergers and acquisitions by conducting compliance due diligence and leading post-acquisition integration efforts. As a subject-matter expert, you will oversee corrective and preventive action programs, root cause analyses, and continuous improvements to ensure the compliance framework remains robust and effective.

Ideal profile


We are looking for someone who brings:

Experience & education

  • Master’s degree in Law.
  • 7–10 years of experience in legal or compliance roles.
  • Strong knowledge in competition law, GDPR, anti-corruption, anti-bribery, AML, and trade sanctions.
  • Significant experience in managing third party compliance and cross border regulatory challenges.
  • Proven ability to maintain legal and ethical standards across an international organization.
  • Familiarity with international regulatory environments and cross-border compliance challenges.
