Are you looking for an exciting internship opportunity with one of the world's largest NGOs? Then you might be our new intern for the Fall semester.

Who are we?

The Emergency Unit (EMU) provides emergency support to operations and sits within the department of Strategy, Programme and Results at DRC HQ. The EMU at HQ comprises of the Head of Emergencies (Head of Unit), 2-3 Global Emergency Advisors and 1 Global Emergency Specialist and two Access Advisors. The Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) sector lead also sits within the Emergency Unit. The EMU manages a team of 13 roving emergency specialists (EMPACT).

About the internship

The intern will be part of the Emergency Unit and will assist its colleagues with various Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Access and Emergency related tasks, including in the coodination of our team of roving emergency specialists (EMPACT).

The tasks will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Support in the desk analysis of fragile humanitarian contexts, including media monitoring, and analysis of trends, and tracking of triggers for the launch of emergency responses.
  • Support in information management and internal communication of DRC’s emergency responses, including drafting and filing documents.
  • Support with practical and administrative coordination for deployments of DRC’s roving emergency team to countries experiencing emergencies (EMPACT).
  • Support in the delivery of Access and Engagement thematic initiatives. This includes desk reviews on specific topics, key informant interviews with field staff, drafting of summary reports and findings. Topics may include: Civil Military Coordination, Counter Terrorism and Legislation.
  • Support the development of standardized CCCM in Emergencies tools and resources, maintenance of the resource repository, and sharing with Country Operations on request.
  • Support in the preparation of information to support CCCM thematic outputs. This includes desk reviews on specific topics and drafting of summary reports and findings. Topics may include: Climate and Preparedness, Community Engagement Approaches within Area-Based-Approaches to Site Management.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to commit to the values and Code of Conduct of the [xxxxx], to be able to work independently and proactively and to handle challenges in a constructive way, and to be able to work as part of a team. We also expect you to have an interest in and flair for communication and administrative tasks including financial management, and to be open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you.

To apply for the internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Relevant educational background for example in international law, social work, engineering, public administration, international relations, development, political science or other social sciences relevant to DRC’s core sectors in Emergencies (CCCM, Protection, WASH, Shelter & Infrastructure, Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding).
  • Interest in conflict and displacement, fragile states and humanitarian emergencies.
  • Interest in internal administration and systems, detail-oriented and organized approach
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen. [xxxxx]’s headquarters in Copenhagen will move to Lyngbyvej 100, 2100 Østerbro, near Ryparken station, in Autumn 2025.

Start date: ASAP but ideally by mid August 2025. We can be flexible on the start date.

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our year end party


Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it should you be selected for the internship. DRC will support with the process, but please note it can take up to three months from initiating the process. You can read more here.
