DSP Engineer - embedded C development for DSP algorithms

Oticon Medical is looking for a motivated DSP Engineer for embedded C development to join our team developing the next generation of bone conduction hearing aids.

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in embedded C programming, digital signal processing and fixed-point implementation, as well as experience with deploying algorithms to a real-time system.

Newly created position

Joining a team of highly capable individuals, you will contribute to the creation of an innovative line of bone conduction hearing aids that diverge from older technologies. The position is a new addition to the team, intended to increase the capacity in our embedded C/DSP development.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Implement and optimize DSP algorithms in C for real-time embedded platforms.
  • Port and optimize algorithms from floating-point models to fixed-point DSP implementations.
  • Debug, profile, and refine algorithm performance on hardware.
  • Collaborate with DSP algorithm developers to translate models into efficient embedded code.
  • Support prototyping and proof-of-concept projects with the R&D team.
  • Build and maintain automated tests to ensure the software meets functional requirements and comply with medical device standards.
  • Working according to our Oticon Medical product development cycle, which complies with regulatory requirements, to implement, optimize, verify, and document solutions.


Your Background

We expect you to have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and ideally some experience in the following areas:

  • Solid experience in C programming for embedded systems.
  • Real-time software development and debugging.
  • Digital signal processing fundamentals and practical experience with DSP architectures.
  • Familiarity with tools like MATLAB or Python for simulation.
  • Knowledge of good software development practices, such as modular design, version control, unit testing, etc.


You build maintainable, high-quality code and take responsibility for the entire stack of your work—from design and implementation to automated testing.

You are comfortable navigating less defined problems and adapt flexibly as requirements evolve. You remain steadfast when confronted with obstacles and difficulties.

While you work well by managing your own tasks, you also value collaboration and are proactive in reaching out to colleagues to give or receive input.

Work environment

Although part of [xxxxx], the Oticon Medical BAHS R&D organization only consists of 40 people, split between the headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden; Smørum, Denmark; and Sophia Antipolis, France.

This position is open for the office in Smørum, Denmark, where we are currently 14 people located.

Due to the size of our organization, we do not plan to develop everything in-house but rather utilize subcontractors or strategic partners for parts of the development.
