Then you might be our new Senior Public Affairs Advisor who can assist the Secretary General and the Executive Management Team in strengthening DRC’s political advocacy efforts and impact internationally and in Denmark.

Who are we?

Our new Senior Public Affairs Advisor will work closely with the Secretary General and will be part of our specialized Advocacy, Press, and External Relations team in our headquarters in Copenhagen. The team drives the external engagement of DRC in close collaboration with our leaders, programme staff, advocacy and communication teams in our representation offices, regional offices and more than 40 country offices around the world. The team ensures that the wealth of evidence generated across our operations is utilised for transformational change. The team is responsible for strategic positioning and communication and ensures that DRC’s global policy influencing, and advocacy efforts are proactive, well-coordinated, and evidence based.

About the job

The Senior Public Affairs Advisor will support the Secretary General in her political advocacy work in Denmark and internationally with a focus on global displacement and humanitarian diplomacy efforts, humanitarian and development policy, climate change, food security, human rights and international law.

The Senior Public Affairs Advisor will support the Secretary General in preparing high level engagements and in strengthening international professional networks relevant for DRC’s political advocacy and economic partnerships with humanitarian and development actors, politicians, opinion makers, private sector actors and interest organisations both in Denmark and internationally. The Advisor will have the following main responsibilities:

  • To assist the Secretary General in being equipped to engage strategically in political advocacy work within relevant policy areas, promoting DRC’s agenda and mandate in Denmark and internationally.
  • To support the monitoring of the Danish and international political landscape and make recommendations to the Secretary General about what is relevant and necessary for her to prepare for and react on.
  • To advise on and coordinate the participation of the Secretary General in key Danish and global policy processes, conferences, and events.
  • Work with the press team to position the Secretary General in relevant news agendas.
  • Facilitate and quality assure talking points for the Secretary General to lever and ensure consistency in her political engagement and humanitarian diplomacy.
  • On behalf of the Secretary General ensure that the relevant parts of DRC is kept abreast of the GS engagement.
  • To advise on the strengthening of relations with politicians, opinion makers and other stakeholders for DRC and its leadership to be centrally placed vis a vis relevant decision making fora.
  • To assist in translating positions into tailored messaging for a variety of stakeholders, including speaking notes, policy papers, speeches, chronicles.
  • To develop and manage strategic collaboration with key high level external and institutional stakeholders and existing and new partners.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have:

  • A relevant master’s degree in political science, international humanitarian and/or development policy, communications, international business and politics, or the like.
  • 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience within humanitarian and development policy or other related international policy areas, either from an international humanitarian or development organisation, an international organisation, a ministry, or a relevant institutional donor organisation.
  • Experience with political advocacy work and ability to demonstrate achieved results.
  • Ability to create overview and communicate complex matters in a clear and understandable manner with different stakeholders, donors, journalists, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven excellent analytics, writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Danish.
  • Conscientious and efficient in fulfilling commitments, observing deadlines, and achieving results.
  • Proven attention to details and a structured work style.
  • Strong cooperation and networking skills and ability to work proactively both autonomously and in a team.

Contract length: permanent

Workplace: DRC HQ in Borgergade 10, Copenhagen K, Denmark

Start date: May 1, 2023, or soonest possible

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. The position is on “specialkonsulent”/senior consultant level. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
