Our ambition is to continue to innovate in dentistry on a global scale by improving treatment and diagnostics for dental patients everywhere.About the position – We are looking for an electronics engineer for a new discovery department 3Shape is a world leading technology company headquartered in Copenhagen. In the 23 years 3Shape has existed, our world class optical 3D scanners and software solutions have changed the world of dentistry.A quarter of our staff is working in R&D. We work in teams with expertise spanning from hardware and software engineering to usability research and beta testing in real dental clinics. We have a stimulating environment and a strong team spirit, sharing a common goal of offering the best and most innovative solutions.To make sure we stay market leaders, we have started a new cross-disciplinary discovery department. We will be working with both our current and new technology, to make new concepts for digital dentistry. We thus have a unique opportunity and obligation to impact our products for the future.Your RoleYou will be the electronics expert in a new team focused on discovery and front-end innovation. It is thus important that you like experimenting, testing new ideas, and can judge if an idea makes life better for our customers (don’t worry, if you don’t know a lot of dental professionals, we’ll introduce you).Our products contain a lot of software, fast data processing, and wireless transfer. You are thus expected to understand, select and develop the electronics we need. And preferably also how they should be programmed and put to work.As a member of the core team, you will also be involved in developing how we do early (and risky) innovation in 3Shape and how we engage all our other bright colleagues. This means we will need to communicate what we do, and why, evaluate ideas and make sure we pick the most valuable ones to work with.The daily tasks can be e.g.:
  • Estimate the power needed to run a wireless scanner, and suggest the electronics architecture needed to realize it.
  • Get a new prototype, used for testing a new idea, up and running.
  • Evaluate how we can best solve a problem a dentist is experiencing.
  • Understand, select and develop the product concepts.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (Mechanics, optics, software, UX) to solve challenges in the best way possible
    • Your profile
  • You have 5+ years of professional experience – preferably in medical device development
  • Have a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering or similar.
  • Experienced in design of digital electronics.
  • Know how to program e.g. Python or C++.
  • A starter, with no fear of a clean whiteboard.
  • Good problem-solving skills, as we are trusted with many important challenges.
  • Team player with good collaborative and communication skills, also outside your primary field.
  • Curious, with a desire to understand problems in depth.
  • Creative, to identify the best solutions.
  • Analytical, to make the right tradeoffs with many stakeholders.
