We are looking for a dedicated Associate Scientist for a 12-months maternity cover to support our early research pipeline in Diabetes & Obesity Discovery and Translation. Apply today!Your new roleThe position is within the Diabetes and Obesity Discovery Biology department, which is part of Global Research (GR).As an Associate Scientist, you will:Participate in the in vitro characterisation and development of new therapeutics for the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases Design, troubleshoot, and carry out experiments based on knowledge from the literature as well as with support from our scientists, and deliver high-quality data and results to our internal projects Handle primary cells and cell lines and be part of setting up advanced human cell-based functional assays to support phenotyping and validation of new drug candidates Maintain laboratory supplies and operations and keep accurate and detailed records of experimental work and data Work collaboratively with different stakeholders in a matrix organisation Ultimately, your work will contribute to the improvement of the quality of life for millions of people with diabetes, obesity or other cardiometabolic diseases around the world.We do not offer relocation support for the role, so we are only looking for locally based candidates.About the departmentThe Diabetes & Obesity Discovery Biology department is part of the Diabetes & Obesity Discovery & Translation area with primary focus on establishing new cellular in vitro models to elucidate mode-of-action and profiling of novel biology and molecules for early evaluation of new drug candidates. We contribute to many different research activities and projects, and we are responsible for delivering high quality data and input to drive the projects forward. For this purpose, we apply state-of-the-art equipment and collaborate closely with other departments within the cardiometabolic disease area.In the department, we are seven scientists, three technicians, and three students/interns. Our working atmosphere is characterised by an open, cheerful, and informal tone. With a multitude of different nationalities in the team, both working and social language is English.Your skills & qualificationsTo be successful in this position you have:A master’s degree in life sciences (human biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology or similar) Solid hands-on experience with cell cultures and cell-based screening assays Previous experience with vascular in vitro assays or 3D models is an advantage Experience in methods such as RNA isolation, qPCR, ELISA and imaging Preferably skilled in programs such as Excel and Prism Knowledge of vascular biology and/or type 2 diabetes/obesity is an advantage In addition to your scientific profile, you are a motivated and open-minded team player with good collaboration skills.
