København N

We are offering a 3-year postdoctoral position commencing 1 August 2023 or after agreement to a talented and highly motivated researcher interested in computational analysis of transcriptional regulation and co-transcriptional processing.
The successful candidate will be employed in the Gregersen Group at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

ABOUT THE LAB AND THE INSTITUTE
The Gregersen Group was established in the Spring 2021. The group focuses on various aspects of co-transcriptional regulation primarily mediated by RNA-binding proteins. Recent papers include: Gregersen et al. 2019 Cell [PMID: 31104839] and Gregersen et al. 2020 Nature Protocols [PMID: 31915390].

We use a wide range of experimental approaches including cell biology, next-generation sequencing (RNA-seq, TTchem-seq, DRB/ TTchem-seq, mNET-seq, ELCAP-seq, CLIP etc.) as well as molecular biology techniques (to decipher the molecular mechanisms of factors involved in co-transcriptional regulation and the composition of transcription complexes in human cells.

The Gregersen Group represents cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and training and is located in modern laboratories in the Mærsk tower at the Panum Institute within the ICMM and the newly established Center for Gene Expression (CGEN). We have access to state-of-the-art facilities for cell engineering, next-generation sequencing, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometry.

Project description
The work will be focused on bioinformatics analysis of a wide range of RNA-seq techniques (RNA-seq, TTchem-seq, DRB/TTchem-seq, ELCAP-seq etc.) used in the group to study transcriptional regulation. Using a combination of these techniques we aim to uncover how transcription dynamics is regulated in response to stress and how RNA polymerase II associated factors are involved in mediating such regulation.

The role of the candidate will primarily be to use existing tools to analysis RNA-seq data and to develop new methodologies and pipelines for analysis of performed experiments in the laboratory. In addition, it is expected that the candidate engages actively in the group, attend scientific seminars and conferences.

Principal supervisor is Lea H. Gregersen, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM).

Start: 1 August 2023 or soon thereafter.

Duration: 3 years as a postdoctoral researcher.

Your profile

  • You have a PhD in Bioinformatics, computational biology or similar.
  • Keen interest in transcription and/or RNA biology.
  • You possess research experience and publication records in relevant fields, ideally with prior experience in transcription, gene expression or RNA biology.
  • Previous experience with analysis high-throughput sequencing and ideally analysis of experiments utilizing metabolic labelling of RNA.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.
