Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoc fellow to commence on January 1, 2024, in the Moritz Group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen.

The Postdoc fellowship is part of the CBMR International PhD & Postdoc Program.

About us
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie cardiometabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories and offices in the Maersk Tower.

The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. For more information, visit www.cbmr.ku.dk.

Our research
The goal of the Moritz Group is to use metabolomics and fluxomics approaches to study the role of metabolites and lipids in metabolism. By using mass spectrometry-based methods we can screen for 100s to 1000s compounds or target specific compounds in different biological systems. We hope to able to uncover the basic role of metabolites in metabolism and their role in developing cardiometabolic diseases. The research is interdisciplinary and involves close collaboration with research groups at CBMR, international groups and the CBMR metabolomics platform. The group strives to work as a team, with members of both genders and from different nationalities.

Job description
The aim of the project is to develop workflows for in vivo stable isotope labelling (e.g. 13C-U-glucose), in vivo flux analysis combined with tissue-specific metabolic flux analysis and interconnected metabolic modelling. Our focus will be on metabolic modelling in mice and performed in close collaboration with the in-house enabling biology technology platforms the “Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform” and the “Metabolomics Platform”. Your main tasks will be to develop data analysis and mathematical modelling workflows. In the project, we strive for apply the workflows in different relevant biological proof-of-concept projects in close collaboration with other groups at CBMR.

Profile
The Postdoc fellowship is aimed at early-career researchers with a basic science background or clinicians who aspire to a career in academic medicine. We are particularly interested in candidates who are familiar with integrative research approaches within the broad area of basic cardiometabolic research with an application toward human pathophysiology.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biomedicine, or related sciences
  • Excellent scientific track record in relation to career stage.
  • Profound knowledge on metabolic flux analysis and metabolic modelling.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of stable isotope tracers for flux determinations.
  • Knowledge and experience in mass spectrometry analysis and data pre-processing is a prerequisite.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral
