Head of Production – High-Tech Manufacturing for Sound & Vibration measurement – Hottinger, Brüel & Kjær, HBK

As Head of Production, you will head HBK’s Sound & Vibration production based in Virum, Denmark. In this role, you will be responsible for an organisation of around 90 FTEs, including 1 Service & Aftersales Manager and 4 Production Managers as direct reports. Furthermore, you will be a part of the Senior Operations Management site team in Virum.

The position


In the role, key focus areas will centre on ensuring a consistently high-quality manufacturing of products, and where distinct and engaging leadership shall contribute to driving employee engagement, thereby ensuring a high-performing plant. Together with your skilled managers, you will design and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the production, and collaborate closely with national as well as international peers to provide the highest possible level of service to both internal and external customers.

Your responsibilities cover 3 central areas that are pivotal to continuous safeguarding and development of the production:

  1. Leadership and strategy, identifying and prioritising continuous improvements and efficiencies, and together with the site management team, support growth ambitions through data-driven production management, delivery reliabilities and efficiencies.
  2. People management, building, developing and retaining a motivated team of employees, creating followership. Furthermore secure crisis management, supporting in incident resolutions and driving change management. Also, execute “people reviews”, define objectives and follow up on actions.
  3. Production excellence and operations, structuring production processes to ensure uptime and efficiency, and ensuring continuous implementation of CI and Lean initiatives in line with Group-wide Spectris Business Systems. Other tasks include defining and following-up on production KPIs and quality, building flexible and scalable processes, driving a safety culture across production, identifying opportunities for reducing / recycling waste, and digitalising production data and optimising use of ERP.

Success in the role will be measured by productivity and lead time gains, quality improvements, employee engagement, and the ability to drive Lean and automation initiatives.

Your profile


As Head of Production, you are a motivating leader that seeks collaboration, dialogue and is excellent in stakeholder management in a matrix structure engaging with quality, logistics and development teams. Your mindset and actions are directed towards improvements and efficiencies, while understanding people’s motivational drivers and readiness for change. In your work, you are influenced by a strong ability to prioritise, execute and create results together with and through others. To support your deliverables, you demonstrate strong skills in analysing and understanding technical versus business complexities, and can translate these into concrete decisions.

To summarise, key words that should describe you are strong communicator, change leader, problem resolver, organisational developer, combined with and a strong combination of autonomy and team orientation. Professionally, you can document experience with following:

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in engineering (production, machine, process or electronics) and perhaps combined with a leadership degree.
  • Extensive experience from a senior management role in a production environment with a high technical complexity, and preferably with automated processes.
  • International and preferably concrete experience from an international matrix structure.
  • Background within engineering, medical device, aerospace, automotive production, or similar, and with HW and SW..
  • Experience in building and implementing a production strategy and translating it to actions, deliverables, and KPIs, and following up with continuous improvements.
  • Overview of all regulatory requirements and mandates within ISO certified processes (environment, quality, and health and safety).
  • Strong people and project management skills.
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, ideally certified.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is a plus.
  • Fluent in Danish as well as English.
