Postdoctoral Researcher at Niels Bohr Institute, NQCP

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) at the Niels Bohr Institute at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Postdoc Researcher dedicated to semiconductor quantum dots processors, with a specific focus on developing novel techniques for executing simultaneous quantum gates. This position is open from 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

We highly encourage applications from underrepresented groups in the field.

About us

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme is establishing a team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. The long-term mission of the programme is to enable the development of fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems. Among the four hardware platforms pursued by NQCP, the Spin Qubit Pilot Line Team aims at achieving a quantum advantage exploiting the unique properties of semiconductor quantum dots processors. To reach this ambitious goal, we are building a world-class research group and developing state-of-the-art infrastructure. In this context, the team is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with focus on parallel quantum computing with gate-defined quantum dots.

The project

The project will focus on development of novel techniques for high fidelity quantum operations on germanium hole spin qubit based quantum processors. Specifically, the project will focus on developing techniques to perform quantum operations simultaneously on proximal spin qubits, while maintaining fault tolerant fidelity. The project aims to exploit the wealth of opportunity afforded by a spin-orbit rich platform, to develop techniques such as mid-circuit measurement, feedback, spin-shuttling and manipulation to facilitate fault-tolerant operation in hole spin-qubit based quantum computing architectures.

Place of employment and scientific environment

Research will be carried out at NQCP ([xxxxx] at the University of Copenhagen. Our research facilities include modern low-temperature laboratories containing cryofree dilution refrigerators with state-of-art quantum control hardware, as well as nanofabrication facilities.

At NQCP, we offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. The project takes place in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with regular interactions with physicists and quantum engineers.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in semiconductor spin qubits or a related field
  • You are experienced in low-temperature measurement techniques
  • You have good skills in programming languages such as Python
  • You have an active interest in research within quantum computing
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Experience with conducting and disseminating research, e.g. at conferences and writing scientific papers
  • You have an interest in knowledge sharing activities, teaching and co-supervision of students (BSc., MSc., Ph.D
  • Experience using or writing python data acquisition packages such as QCoDes

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

The starting date is January 1st, 2026 or later after agreement.

This is a fixed-term and fully funded position for two years.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
