The University of Copenhagen is seeking an experienced Postdoc fellow to commence on January 20th, 2026 or after agreement, for the Hansen Group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen.

About Us
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. You can learn more in the Executive Summary of CBMR's Strategy 2024–2028.

CBMR was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and has been located in the Maersk Tower at the Panum building since 2017. The around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.

Our Research
The Hansen Group investigates the human genome and the human global microbiome to characterize the impact of these genomes on health and disease and to identify interactions between the host and the microbiome. You can read more about the Hansen Group here.

Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoc fellow to join the SEGMENT Flagship project. This ambitious initiative aims to partition the genetic risk of metabolic diseases by integrating multi-modal single-cell sequencing, spatial omics, and large-scale GWAS datasets.

The project will be based on human biopsies, which will be subjected to comprehensive single-cell, spatial, and multi-omics profiling (proteomics, phosphoproteomics, lipidomics, etc). Using this multi-modal and multi-tissue dataset in combination with extensive GWAS data available at CBMR, this work will provide unprecedented resolution in mapping genetic risk of metabolic diseases across tissues and cell types.

As part of our highly collaborative team, the successful candidate will actively engage with other SEGMENT subprojects and contribute to the shared scientific vision. You can read more about the SEGMENT project here.

Required competencies and experience

  • A PhD level of education within Life Sciences.

  • Postdoctoral research experience (less than 2 years).

  • Strong scientific track record in relation to career stage, including at least one first-author publication in a recognized peer-reviewed journal.
  • Prior experience in genetic and molecular mechanisms of metabolic regulation, with a focus on liver diseases and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise with handling human blood samples and biopsies from metabolically active tissues (e.g. muscle, liver, adipose).
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in generating high-quality NGS data (10x multiome, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics etc.) from human tissues central to metabolic regulation.
  • Willingness to develop and apply programming skills for single-cell sequencing analysis and integration of multi-omics data (preferably in the statistical programming language R).
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (qPCR, immunostaining, imaging, image analysis, FACS, etc.).
  • Experience in designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting experiments.
  • Experience working in close collaboration with multiple research platforms.
  • Experience in project and budget management, as well as grant writing.
  • Experience in working with hospital biobanks and working with GDPR/patient data.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary hospital-university-industry collaborations.
  • Project management and coordination skills.
  • Interest in teaching and supervision of students.
