The research groups of Prof. Michael Davies (Protein Oxidation Group) and Prof. Clare Hawkins (Redox Biology Group) are looking to employ a person to support our work in the areas of protein modifications and proteomics. The position is a fixed-term appointment for 2 years starting February 2026, or after agreement.

Our research
The Protein Oxidation Group (led by Michael Davies) and Redox Biology Group (led by Clare Hawkins) carry out research focused on understanding and characterizing the mechanisms and consequences of protein modification, a process known to be of major importance in cardiovascular disease as well as other human diseases associated with inflammation. We use a range of analytical, biochemical, molecular, cellular and tissue studies to examine these processes, with an overall aim of understanding and preventing protein modification and tissue damage. Your job
As staff scientist you will assist researchers in the two groups with experimental work, train new students, and assist in optimizing and developing new methods for the analysis of samples containing native and modified proteins by a variety of analytical methods and particularly high-level mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). You will have some responsibility for laboratory organization and safety, maintenance and running of HPLC and LC-MS instruments and some administrative tasks. Relevant training will be given.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • Relevant PhD or Master´s degree (e.g. in biochemistry/molecular biology).
  • Documented experience in working with, running, and maintaining analytical instruments and especially liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry systems
  • In depth knowledge and practical experience of LC-MS/MS of peptides and proteins
  • Have experience in working with complex biological samples
  • Able to work independently, be highly organized, self-motivated and attention to detail
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills, and fluent in spoken and written English

  • Excellent skills in documentation of laboratory work
  • Be positive, proactive, open-minded and have good collaborative skills

The following additional experience may be an advantage:

  • Expertise in bioinformatics and handling of large and complex MS datasets
  • Experience with cell culturing and molecular methods such as immunoprecipitation, qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry and ELISA.
  • Knowledge of post-translational modifications and oxidation reactions

Place of employment
The place of employment is at Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and two dedicated LC-MS/MS systems.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed term position for 2 years. The starting date is 1st February 2026 (or another agreed date).

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Salary level of academic employee, with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experience and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.
