The Natural Language Processing Section at the Department of Computer Science invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Natural Language Processing.

Project Description

The position involves interdisciplinary research on the development and evaluation of large language models for low-resourced langauges, primarily focusing on Danish and other Nordic languages. The research will focus on post-training methods for these low-resourced languages, for example, by investigating the role of synthetic data, among other data augmentation techniques, and the role of in-context learning in modelling low-resource languages. Applicants are also expected to contribute to work on data pre-processing, tokenization, model training. The candidate will be affiliated to the project group ‘Danish Foundation Models’, [xxxxx] which is a collaboration between several major universities in Denmark addressing the aforementioned initiative, including Aarhus University, Southern Danish University, the Alexandra Institute, and the University of Copenhagen. The candidate will be co-supervised from both the Centre for Language Technology and the Department of Computer Science and will be physically located in both places during their employment.

The Natural Language Processing Section provides a strong, international, and diverse environment for research within core as well as emerging topics in natural language processing, natural language understanding, computational linguistics and multimodal language processing. Job Description

The position is available for 17 months, with a starting date from 15 October 2025,or as soon as possible thereafter. The key tasks of a postdoctoral researcher are:

  • Plan and carry out research with increasing autonomy
  • Collaborate with researchers within the research group, and with external project partners
  • Write scientific articles;
  • Disseminate research nationally and internationally.

Formal requirements

Applicants should have or be about to receive a PhD degree in a subject relevant for the research area, and have good written and oral English skills. The assessment of your qualifications will also be made based on previous scientific publications (if any) and relevant work experience. Knowledge of the Danish language is a plus, but not a strict requirement for the position.

Terms of employment

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,700 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (April 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18,07% to your pension fund.
