You will join Demant’s Intellectual Properties (IP) team, where we are a mix of Patent and Trademark Attorneys as well as IP Paralegals. Our primary mission is to continuously interact with Demant’s globally distributed business units and R&D organizations to ensure that Demant launches products with the lowest litigation risk possible. We are located at Demant’s headquarters just outside Copenhagen.

The job
You will work at the interface between R&D, Marketing and Management. Our task is to assist Demant in obtaining the optimal balance between protecting new inventions from our R&D organizations, estimating our freedom-to-operate on the market, ensuring the correct and necessary branding, and at the same time meeting business goals.
Working opportunities are various and challenging. You will have a chance to collaborate closely with R&D, including getting a detailed technical insight into current development projects in all of Demant’s business units. Thereby, you will be able to estimate and advise on freedom-to-operate, and to draft and prosecute essential patent applications to ensure that Demant has the strongest possible position on the market.
You can look forward to the following responsibilities:
Further, you will in time have a chance to join activities before the European Patent Office, where our own and competitors’ patent rights are frequently challenged, which requires us to argue before a tribunal of the European Patent Office both in writing and verbally.
You will experience a steep learning curve, where you will have to train your analytical, strategic, technical, and innovative skills, and get an in-depth knowledge of the legal framework of IP.
You will in time have the possibility to further educate yourself in a program to become a European Patent Attorney.
Your backpack
You could join us as newly graduate or alternatively have 1-2 years of work experience. You could have an educational background as engineer or scientist with a technical knowledge including physics and electronics, M.Sc. or Ph.D. (e.g., M.Sc.E).
As a person, you have strong analytical skills and are able to quickly grasp new technical areas. You should have an eye for details and, at the same time, be able to communicate clearly and concisely with different stakeholders. You are structured and systematic and have an interest in understanding Demant’s business. You need to be fluent in English.
