We seek a dynamic and talented individual to join 3shape’s Continuous Delivery team as a Test Architect. This position offers an exciting opportunity for all applicants passionate about test automation who want to make a significant impact. We want to hear from you if you possess strong leadership skills and broad technical expertise in test automation.The team and the organizationYou’ll be part of the Continuous Delivery (CD) team in the Research & Development division in 3shape. The team consists of 16 people located in Denmark and Ukraine that are all working with tools and processes to support the delivery of technology to 3shape’s customers.The Research and Development organization in total consists of approx. 600 people and is tasked to develop and maintain 3shape’s products covering a wide range of hardware and software technologies.
The business pain and the roleToday 3shape has several great automated test initiatives but they are disparate and anchored within project teams that have tailored them to project-specific needs. We need you to establish what good looks like across the teams so we can start converging towards a common set of practices, test tool(s) and a coordinated understanding of when they are applicable. You’ll do this working with engineering, across projects that span traditional desktop software, mobile and web services.You’ll be giving direction (60%) but at the same time you implement what you preach (40%).
You’ll implement these tools and processes working closely with and setting direction for test automation engineers across 3shape as well as the CD team who are responsible for CI pipelines and infrastructure.You'll know you've been successful in the first six months if you can achieve the following:
  • Establish clear test standards: Develop and implement standardized guidelines for creating test cases, particularly for specific programming languages like C#. This will ensure consistency and quality in testing practices across the organization.
  • Evaluate and shape test automation strategy: Assess the current state of our test automation framework and processes and contribute to defining a future-oriented strategy. Offer assistance and advice to ongoing projects, helping them enhance their test suites and achieve continuous improvement.
  • Foster a shared understanding of testing concepts: Clearly define and promote a common vocabulary and understanding of testing principles throughout the organization. Provide guidance to teams, enabling them to identify areas for improvement in their current testing implementations and suggest suitable enhancements.
    • By accomplishing these goals, you will have made significant contributions to standardizing testing practices, refining test automation strategies, and promoting a cohesive understanding of testing concepts across teams.

  • Change management: You drive change management processes to completion while keeping stakeholders well-informed.
  • Agile methodologies: You’ll deliver technology to and with teams using agile methodologies, so you are familiar with SCRUM and Kanban processes and working methods.
  • Functional testing: Stay up to date with the latest techniques and share your knowledge with others. Assess and peer-review the work of engineers —mentor and coach colleagues. Develop test approaches for significant projects and guide risk management. Be innovative and recommend new test techniques.
  • Non-functional testing: Design and execute non-functional test cases using standard techniques, collaborating with the team to develop various business scenarios.
  • Technical breadth: Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of various tools and techniques and be capable of training colleagues. Guide testing techniques and frameworks. Research, plan, and train team members effectively.
  • Technical depth: Demonstrate the ability to provide value to projects that range from greenfield to codebases with a large legacy of test automation suites.
  • Test analysis: Analyze and gather information from automated testing, identify problems and opportunities, and communicate recommendations that align with business requirements. Share your insights with important stakeholders and identify the most straightforward approach among various options.
