As an Associate Scientist, you will conduct in vitro perturbation experiments using primary human cells, supporting our biomarker discovery & qualification efforts in Translational Research. This role offers the chance to immerse yourself in cutting-edge research, driving discovery, and contributing to our understanding of disease processes. Some of your main tasks will include: Cultivating and maintaining primary cells derived from adipose tissue, liver, and kidney, ensuring their viability and functionality in vitro Designing and executing in vitro experiments to study cellular responses and interactions relevant to cardiovascular, hepatic, or renal biology Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to integrate cell culture data into broader research initiatives focused on biomarker discovery and qualification Utilizing advanced imaging and analytical techniques to assess cellular morphology, function, and signaling pathways Analyzing experimental results, interpreting findings, and presenting to the translational R&D teams Qualifications
You hold a Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field with a strong focus on primary human cell culture and 2 - 3 years of relevant experience in pharma, biotech, or academia. To thrive and succeed in the role, you have: Extensive hands-on experience in culturing hepatocytes, adipocytes and kidney cells (e.g., renal epithelial cells) Proficiency in a wide range of cell culture techniques, including isolation, expansion, and differentiation of primary cells Strong background in molecular biology, with expertise in techniques such as PCR, qPCR, transfection, and transduction Additional experience in iPSCs and 3D cell culture is an advantage Preferably experience with advanced imaging modalities (e.g., high throughput confocal microscopy) and image analysis software On a personal level, you have excellent organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Furthermore, the unpredictability of research demands adaptability, problem-solving and time management skills to effectively handle research projects and overcome challenges. About The Department
At the Biomarker Discovery & Qualification department, we discover and qualify TE, PoM and disease modulation biomarkers. We employ human in vitro / ex vivo systems and in vivo animal models as well as apply omics technologies to generate high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research and early development. Currently, the department consists of 9 scientists and is part of the Translational Research VP area. Other departments in Translational Research include Biomarker Assay Development, Omics Technologies, and Translational Imaging. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organisational area responsible for the application of translational approaches across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambitious goal is to ensure early, data-driven decision-making in clinical trials by application of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and disease modulation biomarkers as well as enabling precision medicine.
