We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a two-year position to commence 1st November 2025. The position is part of the project “Effects of Spin-Orbit Coupling on Superconducting Pairing Interactions”, which is financed by the European Research Council and will involve the use of state-of-the-art methods to study superconducting pairing mechanisms in correlated electron systems.

Our research
The successful candidate will be part of a newly started group working with strongly correlated systems and unconventional superconductors. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. The group is a part of the Condensed Matter Physics department at the Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are located in Copenhagen.

Your job

Your job will be to investigate the impact of anisotropic interactions on unconventional superconductivity using a combination of analytical and numerical renormalization group approaches, density-functional theory, and quantum Monte Carlo. A large degree of collaboration with the PhD students in the group should be expected. Furthermore, you are expected to communicate the results obtained in scientific journals and at scientific conferences.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics.
  • You are highly experienced in theoretical and numerical techniques relevant for the study of condensed matter systems, including Feynman diagrammatics, mean-field theory, (functional) renormalization group methods, quantum Monte Carlo, and density functional theory.
  • You have an active interest in strongly correlated systems and superconductivity.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience writing and preparing manuscripts for publication.
  • Experience presenting your work at seminars or conferences.
  • Experience in public outreach.

Place of employment

The place of employment is the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of two years. The start date is 01/12/2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,715,67 DKK/approx. 4,786,82 EUR (April 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18,07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
