We are offering a 2.5-year post doctoral fellowship in sleep neurophysiology commencing April 1 2026 or after agreement.
Our group and research
The Kornum Lab explores sleep biology in health and disease. Our focus is to understand sleep-wake neurophysiology and how the immune system affects the sleep regulating networks of the brain. We are particularly interested in the hypocretin/orexin neurons, their signaling, and their involvement in excessive daytime sleepiness.

Project description
The overall aim of the project is to explore the involvement of a novel hypothalamic cell type in sleep/wake regulation. The post doctoral fellow will work with transgenic mouse models, chemogenetic tools and electrophysiological recordings of sleep-wake stages. The fellow will be given the possibility of publishing own data.
Job description
The post doctoral fellow is expected to plan and perform the experiments needed in the project. This includes data analysis and interpretation of findings. The fellow is also expected to write scientific papers and take part in writing of grant applications for the lab in general. Also part of the job is helping and guiding students in the lab ranging from bachelor level to phd-students, and to take part in the teaching at Department of Neuroscience to a minor extend.
This position is funded as part of a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist, who ideally has the following competencies and qualifications:
Terms of employment
The postdoc position is a full-time position for up to 2.5 years. Starting date is April 1st 2026 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Profile

- A PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences
- Expertise in working with mouse models of CNS disorders
- Experience in immunohistochemistry
- Experience with chemogenetic techniques
- A basic understanding of sleep biology and neuroscience
- An ambitious, independent and critical mind-set
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
