Research at CMP is focussed on malaria, and is mainly supported by external grants. All activities are organised in thematically defined teams, each led by a senior scientist. The team leaders, the Head of CMP, and a technician representative form the daily leadership of CMP. CMP is part of a well-established international scientific network, composed of scientist in Europe, Africa, America and Australia. More than 60 scientists and technicians are affiliated at CMP. A large proportion of these are engaged in graduate as well as postgraduate training. In 2007, the CMP laboratories at the Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen and at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Rigshospitalet were relocated to newly renovated facilities at the former Kommunehospitalet, now University of Copenhagen City Campus or Center for Health and Society (CSS). In 2017, the CMP laboratories at CSS were relocated to the Mærsk Tower research facility.

Your job

Your job will be working with malaria vaccine development. One of the vaccines we are working with is against placental malaria. Women, who have acquired immunity against malaria during childhood, nevertheless become susceptible to malaria again during their first pregnancies. Parasites accumulate in the placenta, where a combination of altered blood flow and expression of chondroitin sulphate A (CSA) provides a new niche for parasites to sequester. We have previously tested a soluble sub-unit vaccine in phase 1 trials. Recently, we are developing vaccines against other malaria blood-stage targets. We will use a virus like particle platform that was also used in a COVID-19 vaccine that we previously developed
