Consultancy in Endocrinology combined with a clinical professorship in Endocrinology with special focus on Pituitary diseases

A clinical position as consultant of Endocrinology at the Department of Medicine at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Endocrinology with Special Focus on Pituitary diseases.

With this new position the Department of Medicine, Zealand University Hospital in collaboration with Copenhagen University wishes to strengthen the focus on clinical research for pituitary diseases in order to provide state of the art care and treatment. The purpose of the professorship is to facilitate a research centre with particular focus on clinical and epidemiological research.

The professorship would also be required to participate and organize the teaching of medical students at both bachelor and master level in the newly established medical education in Region Zealand.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

The Medical Department has 220 employees and is part of Zealand University Hospital, the youngest university hospital in Denmark. The medical staff consists of 55 doctors with specialties in endocrinology, gastroenterology and geriatrics. Within the endocrinology specialty there are 12 specialist including one research associate professor and two associate professors.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department is divided into 3 sections including Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Geriatrics. The section of Endocrinology consists of an outpatient clinic with more than 30.000 visits every year and 4 beds for patients with endocrine disorders. The Department has a Research Department that support the clinical research. The Department of Medicine publishes 40 peer review papers yearly.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in endocrinology and as a clinical professor of endocrinology, the Department of Medicine wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research acknowledging the need for focusing on research and care of patients with pituitary disorders. In addition, the Department wants to facilitate the education of the next generation of endocrinologist through focus on pre- and especially postgraduate education.

Region Zealand

Region Zealand has a population of approximately 820,000 citizens who are under the care of three hospital units. Zealand University Hospital is one of these units with a division in Roskilde, Køge and Nykøbing Falster. Zealand University Hospital has at present approximately 700 beds and covers most medical specialties. In 2026, Zealand University Hospital will be housed in new buildings and will be the main regional hospital with a centralization of nearly all medical specialties and a total of 835 beds.

A full medical education will be implemented in the region in 2024.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in endocrinology with extensive experience in research and caretaking of pituitary diseases together with skills in pre and postgraduate teaching

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must simultaneously send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy). Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Medicine. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Medicine, Zealand University Hospital
