Vice President – Engineering (Network Design)
Reports to: SVP Engineering
Location: Copenhagen (Global HQ) / London - Preferred.
Other location like Bangalore (India) can be considered.
Maersk deploys $13Bn+ in assets (ships, planes, trucks, etc.) to connect the world and enable global trade. The incumbent will take executive ownership of the E2E transportation network design, optimization, and execution, starting from designing the network and respective transportation products, to making sure each customer order is delivered as promised. This role will take responsibility for the design (incl. architecture, technology choices, etc.) and day-to-day operations overseeing the and operational aspects of the transportation platform – technical operational excellence as well as outcomes for our customers and colleagues. The team will provide a global structure for customer service including controls and service sessions and protocols for service use. The Platforms organization is at the forefront of developing cutting edge technologies to improve the customer’s experience with personalized and automated end-to-end digital journeys, that enable Maersk customers to access standardized products and services seamlessly. The team creates the foundation to integrate data, systems, and processes, powered by scalable Digital Infrastructure and APIs, thereby enabling Maersk’s vision to be the Global Integrator of container logistics, connecting, and simplifying customers’ supply chains.

Responsibilities
- Global responsibility for the design, planning, roll out and day to day operations of the global transportation network platform across the Maersk business.
- Build world class digital capabilities in network design, route optimisation, order fulfilment, exception, and contingency handling
- Drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the platform through a modernisation programme, reducing the current legacy estate and instead focusing on more agile and nimble cloud-based innovations to deliver a superior service to the customer.
- Take ownership of and oversee Cloud Architecture best practice focusing on areas such as virtualization, secure networks, and data processing as well as the ability to scale as and when required by the business and broader customer base.
- Manage Platform based resources and budgets globally. Monitor engineer workloads and plan and optimise resources.
- Track and report progress to the senior executives regarding the overall service strategy and its success.
- Be the customer’s ambassador in various Maersk Senior Executive forums.
- Lead innovation and thought leadership in our journey to change and digitise the Logistics and Services industry.
What you bring
- An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion to push the boundaries of innovation.

- Deep and versatile technology skills (AI/ML, Mathematical optimizations, Cloud, Micro-services architecture, DevSecOps, Graph, SQL and NoSQL DBs, managing estate with multi-programming languages used – C#, Java Spring Boot, Go, C++, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving skills and product thinking
- Brings relevant experience in building and leading Software Development / Engineering capabilities in global Technology organizations.
- Proven track record of overseeing design, implementation, and management of a large complex platform solution.
- Deep expertise in implementing API, Microservices architectures, opensource technologies, Cloud Architecture (Azure / AWS)
- Responsible for the availability and performance of the platform with experience in both large data and high-volume daily transactions and concurrent user access.
- Has previously owned the hosting responsibility, taking the lead on key decisions including architecture, operational and budgetary expenditure.
- Experience in designing highly secure networks, database, and application server environments in a Cloud hosted facility.
- Experience in navigating matrixed organization, specifically influencing stakeholders within and outside immediate org structure.
- Leading geographically distributed and diverse teams.
