We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic data analyst with a a background in epidemiology, public health, data science, biostatistics, machine learning, or related area. The candidate’s work will be nested within large and complex national and international datasets, including nationwide registers. The candidate will be employed at the Department of Public Health but will also work closely with researcher at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research. This is a 3-year position with a start date of January 8, 2023, or upon agreement.

Background

Department of Public Health: The Department of Public Health’s focus is to improve the health of the population and the connection between health and society. The Department provides the scientific foundation for efforts that aims to improve public health, both nationally and globally, and to create greater insight into the links between health, the individual and society as well as the ethical, equity and political implications. This is achieved through research, education and engagement with stakeholders and the public at large with a wide-ranging multidisciplinary research agenda covering most aspects of public health at a high international level. Section of Epidemiology: Section of Epidemiology contributes to the development of the field of theoretical epidemiology, with a specific focus on causal inference, complexity, and life course epidemiology. The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR): CBMR is a vibrant international research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s research has resulted in seminal discoveries as to how genes, hormones, and environmental factors influence metabolic health and disease throughout life. The position available is in the Guasch Group, which investigates the role of dietary and lifestyle factors in cardiometabolic diseases (read more https://cbmr.ku.dk/research/research-groups/guasch-group/). The research group, which the data analyst will join is part of the Section of Epidemiology, Department of Public Health and is also affiliated with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) and the data analyst will be able to attend seminars, courses, and use the resources. The candidate also be mentored and work closely by the Merino Group at CBMR, which investigates the interplay between environmental and molecular factors in the development of diabetes and related complications. Job description

The successful candidate will support data analysis focused on investigating risk factors and their changes over time associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mortality risk using health data from different biorepositories, including Danish health registries and other large cohort studies with multiple time-point determinations. The projects will leverage multi-dimensional life-course data and well-characterized cohort studies to resolve complex problems in epidemiology. Machine learning expertise will be a plus. In addition, other projects may involve causal effect estimation and trial emulation using observational data. The candidate will be responsible for methods development and data analysis.

The specific work tasks will include data processing and management of large studies, supporting scientific work related to the topics described above, and statistical analysis of existing data. The successful candidate will also be involved in manuscript preparation and when relevant in. the development of new proposals and research initiatives.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Staff Scientist who, in addition to the desired interests and expertise stated above, has the following skills and qualifications:

  • a Master degree in Epidemiology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field. A PhD degree in one of the these areas would be an added qualification

  • a strong computational background and preferably expertise in dealing with large and complex datasets
  • a high level of proficiency in epidemiology, with expertise in time-series analyses, causal inference, and/or machine learning algorithms
  • extensive experience analysing data, interpreting results, and concisely summarizing key messages
  • experience in public health, diabetes, and/or cardiometabolic diseases is a plus
  • possess good interpersonal and communicative skills, fluent in English, both written and spoken

Terms of employment

The data analyst position is a full-time (37 working hours weekly) and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is January 8, 2024, or as soon as possible hereafter.

You will be employed as Special Consultant or Academic Staff

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
