At the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, the Department of Epidemiology Research at SSI is dedicated to a healthier future shaped through the power of data. We are seeking a passionate Data Scientist to join our department, working in the intersection between machine learning and causal inference to advance epidemiology research.

Our department is a vibrant hub of 35 diverse professionals, including medical doctors, statisticians, bioinformaticians, data scientists, biologists, public health scientists, and mathematical modelers. Some of our research interests are infectious diseases, vaccines, pregnancy, mental health, sexual health, genetics and drugs used for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Your role: Advancing data-driven discoveries
As a Data Scientist, you will play an important role in shaping the future of epidemiology research at our department. Collaborating in dedicated teams, you will develop cutting-edge tools and techniques, leveraging machine learning and causal inference to uncover hidden insights in health data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data wrangling: Orchestrate complex health data into analysis-ready formats
  • Tool development: Design and implement innovative tools to streamline data- and research workflows and enhance efficiency
  • Machine learning and causal inference: Apply your expertise in machine learning and causal inference techniques to tackle real-world health challenges
  • Statistical analysis: Conduct rigorous statistical analyses to establish causal relationships and inform evidence-based decision-making

Discover your potential
We seek an individual with an MSc/PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field, coupled with a strong interest in data-driven health research. Proficiency in R/Python and SQL is essential, along with experience in machine learning and/or causal inference. A high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English is a must.

About the employment
Employment will be as academic employee (akademisk medarbejder) and in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC-overenskomsten).

The position is temporary, full-time (2-year contract).
