Smørum
Welcome to our Graduate Programme. We offer you a career in a leading Danish C25 company, that creates life-changing products for people around the world. We will guide you through a two-year journey here at our headquarters just outside Copenhagen. You will start on 1 September 2024, where you will work with different business units. This will provide you with a broad business understanding and strong network of people across all functions. You will be given a lot of responsibility from day one to develop your professional and personal skills in the best possible way. After this, you will be offered a permanent position as Associate Patent Attorney.
As we are operating in more than 30 countries, many of our graduates get the chance to go abroad for half a year, depending on business needs. Besides that, you will join a fantastic network with all the other graduates and can look forward to some fun team days, training sessions and trips to our different business units.

Your journey as an Intellectual Properties graduate
You will join Demant’s Intellectual Properties (IP) team, where we are a mix of Patent and Trademark Attorneys as well as IP Paralegals. Our primary objective is to continuously interact with Demant’s globally distributed business units and R&D organizations to ensure that Demant launches products with the lowest litigation risk possible.
Our tasks include to assist Demant in obtaining the optimal balance between protecting new inventions from our R&D organizations, estimating our freedom-to-operate on the market, ensuring the correct and necessary branding, and at the same time meeting business goals.
Working opportunities are various and challenging. You will have a chance to collaborate closely with R&D, including getting a detailed technical insight into current development projects in all Demant’s business units, which will enable you to estimate and advise on freedom-to-operate before launching new products. You will at the same time learn how to draft patent applications and how to prosecute these applications at the European Patent Office, which requires that you train your analytical, strategic, technical, and innovative skills.
In time, you will be given a chance to join activities before the European Patent Office, where our own and competitors’ patent rights are frequently challenged, which requires us to argue before a tribunal of the European Patent Office both in writing and verbally.
In parallel with your daily work, you will have the opportunity to educate yourself in a program to become a European Patent Attorney. This includes getting an in-depth knowledge of the legal framework of IP by studying the European patent law and following IP courses and seminars. Finally, you will have to sit the European Qualifying Examination.
We would like to get to know you
To apply for our programme, you are just about to finish your Master studies in Engineering or Science with a technical knowledge including physics and electronics, e.g. M.Sc.E, M.Sc., or have graduated no more than 1-2 years ago. You are a top performer with excellent achievements in your studies, through your (student) work experience or extracurricular activities. You have furthermore gained international experience through a semester or internship abroad or similar. And last, you are fluent in English
As a person, we believe that you like to collaborate with others and have a high drive and passion for what you do. You are both strategic and pragmatic and go for the ambitious goal. You have a curious mindset, are hardworking, and - most important - humble.
