Opportunity

My name is Lise Demant, Managing Director for Svitzer Europe, and I’m looking for a new Chief Commercial Officer to join our Svitzer Europe leadership team. In this role, you get the unique opportunity to take on overall responsibility for top line development through commercial strategies, securing and renewing of contracts and developing opportunities for new business for Svitzer throughout Europe.

Svitzer (part of A.P. Møller-Maersk Group) is the largest global towage company. We help our customers maneuver their larger ships safely and timely in and out of ports with the mission to make marine operations safer and more efficient, every time, everywhere. Svitzer employs approximately 4000 employees globally, of which 3400 are offshore colleagues.

You will report directly to me and become part of the Svitzer Europe Management Team (EMT) and your peers and close co-workers are the business function/cluster leads of the region (Operations, Finance, Communication, HR, Cluster management and Legal). You will also have the pleasure of working with colleagues in the front-line business as well as our customers.

We are located in Nordhavn, in Copenhagen, have fun, are dedicated, move fast and believe that there needs to be space for a life outside of work. We enjoy knowledge sharing, challenging status quo, coming up with new ideas, and having freedom as an effect of taking responsibility. Marine & Towage business can be challenging, and we work together to improve, e.g., have high ambitions for decarbonisation. Our Svitzer Transverse Tug is a good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPdhKsJu3fk (Time to watch: 1 minute and 55 seconds).

You will play an important role both internally within the team and the broader Svitzer Europe organisation, but also externally towards key stakeholders. Your main tasks are:

  • Lead a growth focused, highly engaged and customer centric Commercial function, embracing our signature practices and commercial tools.

  • Be the voice of the customer in the European Management Team, ensuring consistent focus on our service delivery to customers.

  • Being an active member of the global commercial community and commercial leadership team, not only securing business, but also in global and strategic project and initiatives. Ensure steady development on business development opportunities as well as pipelines strength.

  • Continuously develop our customer relationships and NPS.

  • Plan and secure contract coverage for harbor towage activities.

  • Actively engage with product teams to successfully market new products in the region.

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the regional towage market including relevant customers, players and opportunities.

  • Create and develop commercial opportunities through managing relationships with existing and potential customers, partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Actively improve and develop our capabilities for proactive data driven sales and business development.

  • Structure and improve the pricing function using data models such as Pro Visibility.

  • Optimize top line through tariff reviews, contract improvements and business development.

  • Provide detailed industry information and analysis to Regional and Executive management.

  • Identify, screen, evaluate and develop leads on capital intensive projects and targets.

  • Maintain keen market intelligence awareness including competition capabilities, pricing, distressed assets etc.

  • Ensure compliance with competition law and Group procedures and guidelines in all activities.

You have in-depth knowledge and experience within own job discipline and handle situations and assignments independently and will seek advice and guidance on more complex issues.

Further we expect that you have;

  • A Master-level education (Business Administration, Finance or other relevant area).

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in commercial and business development with successful record in asset heavy commercial deals, establishing customer value propositions and business development.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; team player with a highly motivated attitude to grow and sustain the business through long-term relationships.

  • Solid stakeholder engagement with capability to communicate effectively with Customers’ Executives and senior Authorities. Additionally, experience with multi-layered negotiations will be an advantage.

  • Strong business acumen and negotiation skills.

  • High level of financial knowledge and analytical skills.

  • Strong understanding of change management and the ability to work in a matrix organisation.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the capability to deal with people at a broad range of levels.
