We're looking for a passionate Senior Product Developer to lead and drive the development of malt ingredients at Harboes Bryggeri A/S.
BACKGROUND
Harboes Bryggeri is renowned for its expertise in developing and producing beer, soft drinks, and beverages. Additionally, the company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of malt extract - a natural ingredient widely used in the global food and beverage industry. The production of malt extract takes place at the factory in Skælskør, and the products are sold to manufacturers of various products, including bread, breakfast cereals, chocolate, maltbased softdrinks and non-alcoholic beer.
The development and modification of malt extract occur through close collaboration between customers, Harboes' product development and the laboratory team, aiming to achieve specific functionalities in the customers end-product - such as texture, flavor, colour, stability and nutritional value.
We're looking for a Senior Product Developer with experience in the food industry, expertise in customer-driven product development as well as research-oriented product and solutions innovation.
THE POSITION
As a part of a global innovation team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality and commercially optimized products and solutions for the business. Close cooperation with colleagues in Product Development is essential, along with direct engagement with the commercial department, production and quality department. You will also be cooperating with key stakeholders in customers' development departments and with external partners, e.g. raw material suppliers, knowledge suppliers and authorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and overseeing product development and optimization projects, from initial idea or customer requirements to the creation of a producible product. This also involves closely monitoring project progress and adhering to critical deadlines.
- Conducting trials, analyses, and process optimization for ingredients.
- Conducting pilot and full-scale experiments in ingredient production.
- Performing research to identify industry trends and emerging technologies, collecting relevant data and literature, and incorporating insights into product development to create innovative and effective ingredient solutions.
- Ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality, such as analyzing ingredient costs, evaluating alternatives, and optimizing formulations to achieve desired product performence while maintaining profitability.
- Preparing materials for customer presentations.
- Conducting quality assessments of all new and reformulated products and processes.
- Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers for raw materials and equipment.
- Documenting project data.
THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this position is an individual who combines scientific knowledge, expertise in bio- or food-technology, and regulatory competencies to develop safe, high-quality, and commercially viable products for the industry.
Requirements:
- Strong foundation in food science and technology, including knowledge of chemistry, microbiology, processing techniques, and preferably food ingredients, e.g. their properties, functionalities, interactions, and applications, as well as their impact on texture, flavor, stability, and nutritional composition.
- Proficiency in analytical methods, particularly HPLC.
- Dependable project management skills, including the ability to apply principles, tools, and techniques to develop, plan, manage, and execute projects and work plans successfully (e.g., meeting deadlines and staying within budget).
- Proactive and positive mindset, enjoying collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge and establish credibility with highly technical specialists, fostering technical relationships that benefit both customers and Harboes Bryggeri.
- Master's degree/PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related fields.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in product development within the food & beverage or ingredients industry.
- Fluent in English, with Danish language skills considered advantageous but not required.
- Open, curious, and creative mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of thriving in complex environments and interacting with stakeholders both within and outside the organization.
- Demonstrates a sense of responsibility, action-oriented with strong internal values.
