Opportunity

My name is Rashed Nakkache, and I am leading the Architecture & Development department in Svitzer Technology. I am looking for a Solution Architect to join my team in this newly setup function. In collaboration with our colleagues from different functions you will be defining new solutions, redesigning existing solutions and looking into future technologies to support Svitzer’s growth journey. In this role you will get an outstanding opportunity of influencing how our new “Architecture & Development” function is being shaped.

Svitzer is a towage company, which means we help our customers manoeuvre their larger ships safely and timely in and out of port. We operate globally. Most of our business is to support container vessels, cargo ships, cruise ships and navy vessels but we also attend to emergencies like vessels being adrift or offshore fires. Your main location will be together with Svitzer headquarters at Amaliegade 44 in the heart of Copenhagen.

You will be a valued partner placed in the heart of Technology. As our Solution Architect, you will in close collaboration with product owners, project managers, and technology colleagues decide how solutions will be crafted in alignment with business requirements and technological fit. You will also assess proposed major changes to our portfolio of applications against our security and architecture guidelines, and guide on what is best fit-for-purpose from both technology strategic roadmaps and solution, perspectives.

Architecture & Development is a new, small, and growing team in Technology. Our team is consisting of solution architects and developers. As we are building the team, in this role you will have the chance to influence how architectural frameworks, standards and guidelines will be shaped. Automations, CI/CD, and APIs are big on our agenda, and you will also can contribute to frameworks and tooling for these, enabling effective technology.

In Technology we promote Cloud, favouring SAAS and PAAS. We run on Azure, and you will have the chance to learn and grow using the latest technologies, and across different business areas.

You and your colleagues are usually involved in different projects, but we work very closely together and help each other out. Mutual respect, collaboration and fun is important in our team. You will notice a true international feel day-to-day, where your colleagues in the global technology organization are based in Australia, Americas, Dubai, UK and Denmark, however with many more nationalities than this. English is our main business language, and your working days vary between virtual meetings and in-person interactions, and at times you might be traveling to meet in person with remote teams.

Key responsibilities

• Work with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business needs
• Either design or co- design robust solutions for applications and systems based on business requirements, in close collaboration with our Svitzer colleagues and external partners, aligned to the overall Technology strategy
• Help evaluate solution proposals to make sure designs and technology selection are aligned with our overall IT solution landscape, as well as robust and future-proof to support our business growth
• Review of solutions and applications major changes to make sure they are aligned to our architectural standards, security frameworks, strategic guidelines, business and technology roadmaps
• Contribute to defining architectural and development standards, including adequate documentation templates, repositories, tooling, and frameworks
• Ensure architectural and solution documentation are ever green and up to date in close collaboration with stakeholders
• Provide architectural guidance to different teams based on our frameworks and policies

We are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working in the sweet spot between technology and business, driven by the vision to enable more business value and outcomes via technology. You enjoy working with architecture and new technologies, learning and potentially taking ownership for your area of responsibility, transforming, and improving the way we work in the Technology organization.

You either come from a technology background with demonstrated ability in similar roles with few years of experience, or you can be newly graduated with a strong technical background and high interest in becoming a solution architect.

You have been working on ambitious projects with internal stakeholders and external partners and thrive with this. It is important you are experienced in translating business requirements into solution designs.

The degree you hold is bachelor’s or higher. You are enthusiastic about working with Cloud technologies in general. It is a plus if you have worked with Microsoft Azure as all our technology is based on Azure. Terminologies such as API, micro-services, service bus and integration, are not new to you. If you have some experience working with these it is another plus, but not a must. You might also be familiar with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and documenting high and low-level designs.

Besides being organized, you understand and are comfortable collaborating with other teams. We work in agile & scrum settings, and you will have the opportunity to gain that experience. It is important you communicate in a clear, concise, professional, and direct way and are fluent in English. You can build strong professional relationships with your key partners and can act as a link between business, developers, and vendors. This is a role where you can grow into making sure we prioritize changes that bring business value and can have a good conversation with a delivery team and challenge them on the solution when needed.

You are a team player with a can-do attitude focusing on business value that can be unlocked via technology, however with a cost-conscious mindset driving down cost through removal of waste in the process and a keen eye on how we can automate further.
