The role of the Senior Software Engineer
As a Senior Software Engineer within our Platform Engineering, you will be a developer helping to deliver a new and innovative developer platform for Maersk. You will work to deliver features and enhancements to our core platform all while running this system with a high level of availability and reliability.
You will work and collaborate with your team to deliver highly scalable and reliable product. You will contribute to a daily backlog of tasks to create new features, resolve bugs, or help run the product in more resilient way.
The platform engineering team is responsible for building a single CI/CD system for all the developers at Maersk. This platform will enable developers in Maersk to deploy software anywhere in the world (cloud, vessel, warehouse, etc) in minutes.
As a Senior Engineer, you will demonstrate the following characteristics:
- You are creative and come up with innovative approaches to projects and any issues that arise.
- You are a “do’er”. You get things done.
- Sharing expertise and insight with other engineers.
The ideal candidate will have a background that spans development and operations. We are looking for software engineers with experience working in infrastructure, plus some ability across all areas;
- Development - Git (Github), Github Actions, Opensource CI/CD, Cloud CI/CD
- Observability – Metrics, Logging, Tracing
- Backend – API, CLI, process orchestration, Java
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the core deployment application and supporting set of microservices
- Identify open-source software opportunities to accelerate platform delivery
- Operate the platform in a highly reliable and resilient manner
- Be an advocate for the platform by engaging with engineering teams to show best practices
- Write clean concise documentation for internal and external audiences
- Be a member of hiring panels
Key Skills
- Strong experience in Java / Kotlin Spring Boot, Golang
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines
- Experience analyzing, building, and running open-source technologies
- Experience running cloud infrastructure and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience using a cloud provider (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Understanding of microservice based architectures and how to achieve composability
- Excellent communication skills, solid work ethic, and a strong desire to write production quality code.
- Experience of Test-Driven Development approaches
- Demonstrable high levels of integrity
