The job description
As a software engineer, you will collect and refine knowledge and take ownership in design and architecture within your area, as well as being an important sparring partner for your colleagues in and outside the team.
This team have a primary mission to, though their software, effectively defend navy vessels against advanced threats like missiles and next generation torpedoes. This defense requires fast response and utilization of advanced tactics supporting the latest in decoy technologies, and your code will be an important part of this.
We are teams in teams, and you will be in a new team of 3-5 software people, within our working family in the C2 organization of 100+ highly engaged colleagues, in an area of great focus and importance in Terma.

We use a modernized tool stack to support your needs, so Jenkins, SonarLint, Jira, or Gerrit should ring the bell. All teams work with scrum, where most also have systems engineers and software testers, and as teams we review code, plan, and take ownership together.

- Translate customer needs, system enablers, and stubborn bugs, into great code.
- Cover the code with unit tests and refactor code to make it more structured and modern where needed.
- Challenge and be challenged by systems engineers and team testers.
- Try your code in a staging environment emulating our customers setup.
- Be one of our experts when planning new features with customers and system engineers.

How to succeed in this position?

- Experience with software development through the steps of high-level requirements, architecture, implementation, and verification.
- An understanding of modern design principles where experience with using C++ and CMake is a must.
- We also welcome the experience of writing cross-platform code in C++ as well as earlier usage of MFC is an advantage.
- Practiced code reviews and knowledge sharing with fellow engineers, in a mindset of Continuous Integration / Delivery and trunk-based development.
But because our domain is both specialized and vast, we need all the experts we can get. And even more, we want to grow them ourselves…
