Purpose of your role:
Alstom is delivering the new signalling systems in eastern Denmark. The roll-outs are in progress and Alstom is now expanding the organization to fit the needs.
As Signalling Layout Engineer / Traffic Design Engineer at Alstom, your primary role - as part of the engineering team - will be creating signalling layouts – primarily related to the signalling program in Denmark.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design of layout drawings incl. relevant location of signals, speed markings, etc.
- Defining trackside equipment and the application conditions related to trackside engineering
- Analyzing and gathering requirements from customers, safety and other stakeholders
- Provide input for headway calculations
There will also be other primary tasks related to processes, documentation, testing and knowledge sharing within the engineering teams. Secondarily, depending on your other skills and interests, there is also an option of being part of the service team for legacy signalling equipment in Denmark, Norway and in the UK.
Alstom in Denmark is a big part of the Signalling Programme for Banedanmark, but they also work with unrelated projects and customers providing signalling solutions according to other customers’ needs.
Your qualifications:
We expect the right candidate to have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in transport engineering, electrical engineering or a similar field. You have ideally gained some experience within design and review of signalling layouts for the Danish railways, other European railways or related. However, most important is your willingness to learn and your pro-active mindset.
We also expect you to have following professional and personal qualifications:
- Ability to design layout drawings and to understand complex technical requirements, simulations and specifications – and not least to “reality check” the drawings and designs
- Can interact and communicate with other engineering disciplines, BIM team, etc. on a relevant technical level
- Structured, thorough and with an eye for details
- An ability to follow processes from A-Z and contribute with inputs related to rollout
- Thrive in a big international organization and establish relations with stakeholders
- Knowledge of and experience within design and review of signalling layouts for the Danish railways or other European railways will be considered a plus but is not a requirement
- Good communication skills
- Self-driven, flexible and motivated by challenges
- English at a fluent level is mandatory for this role, Danish will be considered a plus

The nearly 100-year-old signaling system on the Danish railways is being replaced with a new IT-based signaling system called the European Rail Traffic Management System - called ERTMS.
In Denmark, Alstom currently supplies ERTMS signaling solutions to Banedanmark for Trackside in Eastern Denmark and for On-board equipment throughout the country.
The implementation of ERTMS is the largest railway project in Denmark's history and incredibly complex. Denmark is the first country in Europe to roll out the entire system throughout the country. Alstom installs signaling equipment in the entire train fleet and lays the signaling equipment along all tracks east of the Little Belt.
