The position CMC Chemical Development & the External Chemical Development department (a part of CMC API Development) has a constant focus on developing robust, technically feasible industrial and economical chemical processes with little environmental impact and build solid control strategies to assure patient safety. As Associate Manager in External Chemical Development, you will lead a team of approx. 9 highly specialized organic chemists, who are responsible for outsourced chemical process development activities, maturing the processes towards both internal requirements and expectations from the authorities. The team is delivering material to clinical trials (mostly phase 3) by means of our worldwide Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisations (CDMO’s), building a solid control strategy and following the projects through process validation and transfer to commercial production. As Associate Manager your primary tasks will be:
  • Keep yourself updated with your team’s projects, know when to get involved, take action and if needed; intervene
  • Direct your team’s continuous improvements of workflows and work processes
  • Place the wellbeing of your team as highest priority, be present and supportive, and build a space of trust
  • Empower, motivate, and develop your team members by acknowledging their differences, taking advantage of the diversity of the team and help to balance high ambitions and tight deadlines
  • Clear and effective communication with your team and towards collaboration partners
  • Support your team in their collaboration with CDMOs, developing robust processes, and creating effective regulatory control strategies for CTAs and market submissions
  • You will be part of the leadership team in Chemical Development that meets both weekly and discuss topics on a day-to-day basis. In this position you will have opportunity to grow personally and professionally by developing your leadership competencies, at the same time as you increase your scientific and business insights. Qualifications We are looking for an Associate Manager who is passionate about people management, process optimisation and collaboration. To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A PhD or MSc in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field
  • Leadership experience and a natural desire to engage, develop and empower people
  • Previous experience in cGMP-regulated chemical manufacturing areas and/or from the pharmaceutical industry (highly advantageous)
  • Understanding of CDMOs and/or experience from Novo Nordisk
  • Experience from writing and reviewing regulatory and quality documentation
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external collaboration partners
  • Strong communication skills and f luency in written and spoken English
  • As a person you are authentic and empathetic with strong interpersonal skills that enables you to build trust. About the department As part of Novo Nordisk’s Product Supply organization, CMC Development (Chemistry, Manufacturing & Control) makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture, and distribute drug candidates for non-clinical and clinical trials which is a complicated journey that requires about 10 years of dedicated work in CMC Development. Chemical Development in CMC consists of more than 80 employees. The area contributes to the delivery of chemical and semi-recombinant APIs, including synthetic peptides, oligonucleotides, small molecules, as well as novel excipients. Furthermore, the area is responsible for development of chemical intermediates and starting materials for the modification of recombinant peptides and proteins. New technologies, to support our pipeline with sustainable processes, are also being pursued internally and externally in collaboration with business partners and academia.
