Novo Nordisk is expanding our world class research team within Liver Biology, and we are seeking a talented and innovative scientist to be part of efforts in the discovery of novel therapeutic molecules in liver diseases. The position The successful candidate will be part of a highly collaborative team identifying and evaluating innovative target proposals and defining appropriate methods and techniques to validate the hypothesis. The work will particularly focus on liver metabolism and fibro-inflammation biology. Given your experience and background in liver biology including fibro-inflammatory research, you will evaluate novel concepts and give input to relevant read outs and establish ex vivo and human in vitro assays, to investigate novel mode-of-action of drug candidates. Some of your key responsibilities will include: Human-centric target identification and validation Developing and expanding our state-of-the-art in vitro/ex vivo experimental research platform to investigate anti-fibrotic properties of drug candidates Designing and establishing new in vitro and ex vivo fibro-inflammatory assays to validate new ideas Working closely with laboratory technicians daily, which includes guiding, problem-solving and sharing of knowledge and scientific insights In depth disease knowledge within cardio-metabolic space and maintaining a broad scientific network is a key to success and you are expected to foster and sustain the necessary external collaborations Presenting your results to project teams and management using strong communication skills and staying on top of the scientific literature within Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and fibro-inflammation aspects of liver diseases Qualifications You hold a Ph.D. degree in human biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or closely related disciplines with preferably 3+ years of experience working with research, biotech or industry within the area of liver metabolism/inflammation/fibrosis. A proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of fibrosis, preferentially MASH pathophysiology. To be successful in this position you have: Extensive cell culture experience including handling of human primary cells, fibroblasts, and/or stellate cells Experience in multicellular 3D models of the liver is an advantage Experimental skills preferably in cell-based assays, high content imaging, immunoassays (MSD, Luminex), biochemical assays, and gene expression analyses (PCR, RNAseq) Ability to report and communicate scientific results Fluency in English and ability to manage multiple activities in parallel As a person, you have a collaborative mind-set with a strong personal drive and dedication. You are quality-minded and live up to our high ethical standards; you possess a flexible attitude and the ability to change focus as required by the projects. You are goal oriented with a focus on establishing state of the art in vitro models that will move projects forward. Furthermore, you have strong analytical skills including proficiency with data and statistical analysis. Experiences with bioinformatics and data analysis is an advantage. About the department Liver Biology is a department within the Obesity, Diabetes and MASH Research area, Global Drug Discovery, Novo Nordisk A/S, dedicated to research within chronic liver disease, in particular non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Currently, the department consists of 12 employees of which 5 are technical staff. We work in a flexible, collaborative, and cross-functional setting, while keeping focus on quality and goals in an informal environment.
