We are offering a PhD fellowship in Immunology and Infectious diseases commencing 15 March, 2026

Background:

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Initiative for Vaccines and Immunity (NIVI), launched in December 2023, has a unique mission to harness airway immunity through innovative vaccine research and development to prevent airborne epidemics. NIVI has two parts:

  • NIVI Research Center (NIVI-R): A state-of-the-art research center anchored to the University of Copenhagen, Department of Immunology and Microbiology ([xxxxx]
  • NIVI Development (NIVI-D): A company that focuses on translational sciences and advancing vaccine development.

NIVI-R conducts scientific research, while NIVI-D works to quickly turn that research into new vaccine candidates. NIVI-D accelerates clinical trials (phases 1 and 2) and ensures a smooth transition to partners for later stages of development.

By connecting science, innovation, clinical trials, regulatory processes, and product development, NIVI aims to streamline the journey from research to real-world vaccines.

Project description

Our group primarily focuses on immune response characterization against different pathogens. We use computational, structural and various biochemical techniques to understand molecular interactions of B and T cell receptors targeting the antigens. Our main pathogens of focus are influenza and Group A streptococcus.

This Ph.D. project will focus on characterizing antigen antibody interactions at molecular details for group A streptococcus infection. The aim is to develop and optimize biophysical and biochemical methods for high throughput characterization of monoclonal antibodies and study the effect of these antibodies on group A streptococcus infection. The methodology will involve high throughput Surface Plasmon Resonance, single particle cryo-EM and ML based protein design.
